I'm so glad I asked to be referred! I liked my general gyne but the doctor I saw was even more compassionate and kind (how is this possible?!)
I did have an internal examination which brought tears to my eyes but I shouldn't have to go through that again. I'm now waiting for an appointment to have a special type of MRI scan where they inject you with a substance that makes endo visible. I've also been referred for a sigmoidoscopy with their colorectal surgeon.
I'm terrified but I feel more confident about the care that I will recieve here. Although my general gyne was very kind to me and left me with no noticeable scarring from my lap I did feel like he didn't fully understand endo. The doctor and endo nurse at the clinic were everything I had hoped they would be.
If anyone's thinking about asking to be referred, my experience has been positive so far. I've been told about complications with the surgery I'm having and know it potentially could make it worse but I'm hopeful.

I'm so glad to hear that your experience at a BSGE clinic was very positive! Did it take a lot to convince your GP to give you a referral to see someone at the BSGE clinic? I don't know if my doc would do that for me....
I know how you feel about the examination - it kills me only thinking about it... it's horrible and painful for us : ( people don't get it. xx
My gyne wrote a letter to my GP requesting I was referred and my GP followed his instruction. I believe the NICE guidelines mean that you have the right to be referred if you've been diagnosed with endo. My gyne wasn't going to refer me until I asked him to.
The examination was by far the worst part. It's caused a really bad flare up that's lasted almost a week 😑 and now I've picked up a stomach bug aswell 🙈
Thanks for your reply LouLouT. When you say your Gyne wrote the letter to your GP, is this your NHS Gyne? Or your private one?
Sorry you got so much pain afterwards, I always get them too it's horrible. What pains did you experienced after the examination? Was this a transvaginal scan?
Bless you - try and eat soups and light meals I guess... and take probiotics? xxx
My gyne is private and NHS but I asked at a private after care appointment following my lap. I don't think it would make a difference though.
It was an internal examination, front and back, to feel a rectal vaginal nodule and test the mobility of my womb. They're concerned if they remove the nodule it will create a fissure so I think it's just a process of weighing up options.
Thank you, I've managed to keep a piece of dry toast down. Hopefully I can eat a little more then I can take my pain meds!
