Worried it's grown...

Hi there! Just looking for a bit of insight from ladies with some experience. I was diagnosed with endometriosis about 8 years ago (age 27-28). Never really had any crippling pain or heavy periods. It was discovered when I suddenly woke up with abdominal pain and a chocolate cyst was discovered in/on my left ovary. So, had my 1st lap and cyst drainage weeks later, took Lupron injections for 6 months bc I was planning to get pregnant before I ran out of time. Didn't happen bc my marriage was not going well soon after that and I didn't want to bring a child into that. Anyway, my cyst ended up growing back so, I had what my Doc called a ovary reconstruction in 2012. I had more adhesions and "endo spots" than I did with the 1st lap and my left fallopion tube was "stuck" by the adhesions. The Doc cleaned me up and told me to try to get pregnant ASAP, but I was just recently separated and knew divorce was coming so, babies were pretty much out of the equation. Here we are in 2018 and I've been on oral birth control since, my Doc retired and my new Doc doesn't really think there's any reason to believe my case of endo has grown or worsened since I'm not having any pain or periods for that matter (thx to BC). I'm kinda worried that my bowels, tubes, lady parts, etc. will be a tangled bloody mess, but I'm also hoping that it hasn't progressed since I haven't had a menstrual cycle since 2012 ish. Any thoughts or advice? Also, what is the best method in checking progression besides a lap? I have a $5000 deductible so, unfortunately surgery is out for me, unless it's absolutely necessary.

Thx in advance

:D Val (age 36)

Hi Val, unfortunately surgery is really the only way to tell. An ultrasound can show significant endo but there is no guarantee. Endo is progressive so hopefully as youve not had a period there will be minimal progression as there’s been nothing there to cause it!

Are you trying to conceive now? I would be tempted to just try and see what happens rather than opt for surgery at this stage. Pregnancy is very for for endometriosis if you can get there!

Good luck 🤞

Thank you. No, not trying to conceive. Not 100% prepared for a baby, but I have heard pregnancy is the best thing for Endo. I assume I would be in some sort of discomfort if it has progressed, but then again, who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️

You’d assume so but who knows with this rollercoaster 😊 I’d say if you’re not in pain, enjoy it and don’t worry about it until you need to!
