Pain has really escalated past couple of months

Hi

For about the past 15 months I've had to take between 1-3 days off work a month because the pain is excruciating.

I'm waiting for a hysteroscopy and a laparoscopy.

The past couple of months my pain has changed. I've been in pretty much constant pain and off work since 25 February and earlier in February I was off for over a week. On top of the excruciating pain during my period I've been getting sharp pain in my lower left abdomen for the rest of the month. The dr initially thought it was a bowel spasm from taking cocodamol so last month I tried not to take it and ended up in A&E in severe pain.

Has anyone else had pain that escalated all of a sudden? the doctors that have examined me don't think there's anything needing seen to as an emergency but it's really affecting all areas of my life, my mood etc. Plus I'm worried about having been off work so long. I have good conditions so I'm still on full pay but I just can't see how I'm going to be able to go back until they can do something to relieve the pain. I can't take anti-inflammatories because of other health issues and codeine makes me sedated. Which is fine but not for doing things!

Mine has got worse since November waiting for a lap which hopefully will be next month. No advise on why/what to do just wanted you to know you are not alone!

Thanks for getting back to me. It does help to know you're not alone.

Hi Ferns80,

Unfortunately, I don’t know of any strong pain killers that aren’t sedative - codeine is my go to for strong pain.

With regard to your other pain - what does it feel like? Does it feel like period pain or is it different?

Thanks for getting back to me. The newer pain is more focused so it's on my left side, goes round into my hip and I can feel it down to my toes. But my period pain is getting worse too. I've also started getting cramping around ovulation which is new for me.

I've started bleeding lightly today, took 45mg codeine and 2 paracetomal about 3 hours ago and am still in a lot of pain.

I try not to google too much but I'm just worried there's something new going on like a cyst. Been waiting 12 weeks for my lap, so hopefully get a date soon. The pain's just making it really hard to do every day things.

That’s not good hun. Hopefully you get your lap soon. Have you had an ultrasound or any tests? What does the pain feel like?

I had an ultrasound about 18 months ago and it was fine but i guess it was quite a long time ago. I'd say the new pain is pretty sharp and almost entirely on one side at one point. When I have my period the pain is still worse on my left hand side but is more spread out.

I'm hoping I'll get a cancellation for the lap soon. The hospital have been really helpful and sympathetic but I think there's just a huge backlog of people waiting.

It was bad enough before with severe pain 2-3 days a month but the constant pain is exhausting. At least I'm lucky that I have good terms and conditions at work so being off hasn't been an issue so far.
