Hi all

I am due my hysterectomy next Thursday, I am 35 so slightly young but due to adenomyosis/fibroids and endo, I really have had enough.. I am so nervous now though. Is there anything I should know, or anything I should take into hospital with me, which may have helped others?

I have had 5 laparoscopies but never major surgery before.

Thank you :) xx

Hiya, how are they doing it abdominally or vaginally or laparoscopic? Make sure you bring some maternity pads or sanitary towels as you will be bleeding. Be sure to bring pjs and a dressing down and slippers! Also a book or something to do ready afterwards! You’ll be okay my lovely xx

laparoscopic/vaginally, with the possibility of abdominal - dependant on what they find as haven't had anything done for four years.

Thank you so much, I didn't really consider pads, so glad you mentioned that! Have you had one done? xx

That’s good so it’ll be minimal scarring! Afterwards you’ll feel pressure in you it’s where there’s a pac in you to stop everything sticking together but they will remove that in a couple of days I believe and you’ll have a catheter. But don’t think you can do everything, take your time. Drink lots after to prevent UTI’s and don’t be afraid to ask for pain relief but only if you are in desperate need for it! I work in theatres so see them often and know how it’s done etc, I’ve seen younger women have it so don’t fear my lovely xx

Probably an hour to two hours it depends on the surgeon and other criteria but you’ll be absolutely fine and in safe hands! No I’m a theatre support worker☺️ any other questions feel freee to message me xx

Good luck. I don't have any advice as I'm in the same position as you waiting for a hysterectomy. Let us know how you get on
