Feeling totally confused

I wonder if anyone could offer any advice? I’ve always had pretty heavy periods but they were fairly regular. I have an almost 10 year old but came off the pill 7 years ago to ttc number 2 - never had any success but was diagnosed with “unexplained secondary infertility”. Fast forward to last summer and my periods seemed to go haywire - lasting upwards of 30 days and having to be prescribed meds to stop the bleeding and they seemed to get heavier with each one, passing massive clots (sorry tmi!). NHS scams came back showing a “simply cyst” on my ovary and everything else normal. GP recommended further investigation but with waiting times I opted to use my insurance and go private. I saw a specialist and she recommended a laparoscopy and cystectomy and a hysteroscopy. When I came round from the procedure it transpired it was an endometrial cyst not a simple cyst and that there was “fairly extensive” endometriosis which she had removed along with removing the cyst. I also had diathermy to clear out the uterus. I was told it had probably taken the time since I’ve come off he pill (so 7 years) to build up to that stage so given I still hope to conceive she didn’t feel it would be problematic to carry on without coil or pill for a year. However, it’s now 6 weeks after the procedure and I started spotting 2 weeks ago before starting to bleed properly 10 days ago. Much lighter than normal to start with but it now seems to be getting heavier and it’s obviosuly a long time again. It’s also very red fresh looking blood. Sorry for all the graphics - does anyone know if this is normal for the first period after this procedure or am i just back to square one??

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi I'm similar (got a 6 year old) and have been ttc for about 3 yrs. Didn't know I had endo but got diagnosed with quite severe endo and had an op to remove it all Nov 2017. 5 months on from the op my periods are longer and heavier then before tbh. The nurse has assured me that it will settle in time. My periods seem to start off normal but get heavier towards the end which is strange. So far there had been no luck with ttc so I'm not holding out much hope on that front but glad we have our son and hope the periods settle soon.

I would say this is all normal esp as it's your first one since the op but if worried maybe ask your GP for assurance.

Good luck with baby making my fingers are crossed for you as know how frustrating this is xx

Thank you. It’s so frustrating isn’t it - but like you, we’re working on the premise that we have our son and we’re fortunate in that respect. Good luck to you too x
