Removing earrings for lap - stupid question?

SufferingSilently9 profile image

I've had my appointment letter to confirm my lap date and it says not to wear jewellery. However, I only got my ears pierced on New Years Eve so will I have to take them out? Could they close up? They are healed now but they said if I take them out without putting others in they could close up until 6months after piercing?

Help.

You can keep them in, they'll just put tape over them. Kept all my piercings in part from my nose.

Whaaat really?! I had to have half of mine cut out on the day because they wouldn’t take me to theatre until they were gone and we couldn’t get them out. My poor nipple healed up because I didn’t have another bar to put in it immediately after!

I think it's because with nipple piercings etc they can catch on stuff and be ripped out. My last surgery was for my nose and I kept all my piercings in part from the nose stud, even had a fresh helix that was about a week old at the time.

They say you can't wear jewellery because if you go into cardiac arrest in the op, the machine they use to shock you will conduct the metal and burn your skin! I imagine a nipple piercing is in a very problematic place for this so that's why they're stricter. They kept asking me if I had any nipple piercings to double check this problem! Piercings in ears won't matter so much I believe

Hi there yes I would think you would have to remove them but they wont close up immediately so you can put them back in after you go home x

Hi, I had my laparoscopy on Thursday 1st March and have a daith piercing in my ear that I couldn't take out for the surgery. They said it was fine and put tape over it. I asked at my pre op whether it would be okay, and none of the nurses seemed very fussed by it! You'll be able to tape them for sure.

In terms of things like that, they care more about nail varnish not being on.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your op.

I was told no jewellery except wedding rings- they are allowed but get strapped. You earrings will be fne for a few hours out - you can put them back on after surgery.

All the best with your surgery xoxo
