Norethisterone & night sweats

Hellllooo Ladies, how are you all doing? Keeping as positive as possible I hope 🙏🏻

I was just wondering if anybody else experienced severe night sweats and burning up whilst taking norethisterone for pain relief from endometriosis? I've only recently had this at night to the point where I've had to wake up and change my pyjamas as I'm freezing due to being soaked in sweat?! I wasn't sure what it was at first but it can only be this pill that's causing this symptom? I've also lost a significant amount of weight in all areas of my body and gone down a bra size?? I'm assuming it's due to not producing as much oestrogen? Am I alone?

Thankyou in advance ❤️sending love to you all today.

That’s no good. I take norethisterone 5 mg. It does not cause night sweats in my experience. My dr said it actually treats post menopausal night sweats just like oestrogen. Are you taking any other medication? Have you told your doctor? I don’t think it will be the norethisterone but never say never it still could do the body is not the same in all of us!!!

How long have you been taking it for now? I might be due a week off it maybe? I didn't take one yesterday and didn't suffer as much at night. I have an appointment with the hospital soon so I'll definitely discuss it with them. Thankyouuu.

I’ve been taking it for 5 yeas continuously and it has saved me. The minute I stop it everything comes back. So I guess I am lucky.

5 years? I wasn't aware it could be taken for so long?! Did you ever suffer with night sweats, weight loss? Do you take a week off every 3 months to induce a bleed? I've been told to do that? But like you say every time I do I feel horrendous for the entire week! Its really helped me with pain relief and I love not having periods every month, but these side effects are worrying if I'm the only one experiencing them. Haha. Xx

No I have taken it continuously for 5 years. A professor of endocrinology gave it to me so I guess he knows what he is doing as all he does is womens health. I also have a mirena in so no bleeding. You may get spot breakthrough bleeding if you don’t have that little break every now and again. If I were you I would take it continuously and if you get spot bleeding then have that week off. It’s just progesterone it’s not anything fancy so there is no danger in taking it all the time without a break. Hope that helps!!

Ahhh yes that does help actually thankyouuu! 😘I'll be honest, I've tried to have the week break but I've never not taken it long enough to induce a bleed 👀I can't handle it, it impacts on my day too much n I end up in bed 🙄ahhh so you have the mirena coil and you're taking norethisterone? Maybe I'll suggest that when I go to the hospital in March 😁Awww thankyou. 👍🏻xxx

So glad I can help. At first I only had the mirena but I still had terrible upper abdominal pain and wierd bowel symptoms( urgency/ diarrhoea) rectal pain( yuck) . My first specialist said “ oh well nothing more we can do... what about a hysterectomy”... I could t figure out how that would help as I have mainly peritoneal endo spotted around my pelvis on the peritoneal lining . They had tried excising it but the pain returned. He also said “ won’t be endo I removed it all, pain must be something else”....... so I went to another doctor who is an endocrinologist who only does women’s health. He took 5 minutes with me and said you need a systemic progesterone. The mirena only acts locally so you need progesterone to get the other spots away from the uterus ! I was better in 2 days!!!! So it is a wonderful combination as the mirena really wipes everything out in and around the uterus and the norethisterone works everywhere else. I am glad I have helped you!!! Good luck.

I was allergic to this, but it made me very cold (in the middle of a heatwave), talk to your doctor if you’re at all worried about your night sweats x

Ahhh okay, so maybe I'm not allergic to it? 🤔or maybe I am but I experience it differently to how you did? That sounds horrible, I'm not sure what's worst being extremely cold? Or extremely hot? 🤔thankyou for responding xx

I just took it a few weeks ago as a short course in a last attempt to kind of "kick off" my Mirena coil by controlling my hormones level. I did get night sweats but also hot flushes during day time! Now I've been off it and is out of my system these symptoms have reduced!

Hello,I was wondering if you could say what was the reason of your nightsweats and what the doctors advised you. I've got exactly same problem now but have to wait long time for my blood test. I've just been diagnosed with fibroids and taking norethisterone. Im not feeling well and I've been having nightsweats for 3 weeks. I will be very grateful if you could share your experience. Thank you.
