First day back at work

Today was quite a big milestone for me. After 18 months of torment I finally made it back to work on the first day of my second attempt at a phased return after trying to return (with hindsight) too early when I still did not have my multiple post op complications under control.

I was definitely in better shape this time and calmer too. I only did 10 to 2pm which massively reduced my travel time and I had parking allocated right outside the office which helped too.

There are a few worrying signs like the severe joint pain that's playing me up and only time will tell how full recovery will be given the chronic fatigue but I am definitely managing more and more.

I’m OK, although recovering from a tummy bug. Whenever I get one it sets off the cramps like nothing else. But I think it’s on the way out now. Phew!

Your joint pains sound puzzling. I wonder what they could be? Sounds a bit like a medication side effect, or do you think it might be connected to the chronic fatigue? If so, then as you get stronger I guess it will pass.

That sounds horrid. I've been quite lucky avoiding those.

Yes it is. I really don't know.... I've also had two night time funny turns that seemed circulatory in nature.

The nurse today suggested that I stop the omeprazole but stay on the pregabalin initially and took blood to check for inflammatory markers.

I wonder if it might be fibro but I've no idea really except that it is worse after activity. It's been bad for a week and I can't identify anything in particular that I have done or eaten.

If it’s worse after activity, maybe it’s connected to the chronic fatigue. From what I’ve read, that’s quite a common experience. But good that you are getting some tests done to check.

I hope your continuing return to work goes well despite it.

Great news that you managed that. A massive well done for battling so much to get to this point. Sorry to hear about the joint pain though. Hope the medication change helps. X

Thanks xx

It's pretty tiring not least as I have to walk the dog first. So very very grateful it's the weekend. Tbh I think the pace of the ramp up is ambitious but we'll see.

That's brilliant Starry!! Really happy that you were able to return to work and felt all more at ease and better shape for doing so this second time round.

Hopefully once your body gets use to been back at work you may not feel so tired often. But like you said, don't ignore those tale tale signs that tells you to wind down. Nothing is precious like your health as you have grown to realise I'm sure.

You keep at it and I'm so happy for you. God bless
