Lap on Monday

Hi everyone,

I go in for my lap on Monday. What’s everyone experience about staying in? I think it’s meant to be a day case but a chance of an overnight stay. Has anyone had to stay or got out the same day? Thanks :)

Hi Emma, I've had 4 laps and never stayed overnight. I take ages to come round from anaesthetic so may stay on the recovery ward an hour or so linger than normal but have never known anyone to stay over x

Hi good luck for lap. My first ever one stayed over night coz I was under so long following 2 home same day and this one last week I was in 4 days. I was down a long time again and then I couldn' wee so needed a catheter in. Everyone is diff and just depends what they do during surgery . If it's just diagnostic then chances are home same day. But if they need to do anything them be prepared to stay. Take an over night bag just incase xx

Thanks huni, it’s a bit of both..diagnostic and if they find anything then I guess they’ll deal with it. Hope you’re recovering ok xx

Hello Emma,

I had my first lap for Endo on Monday and I was in hospital for 4 nights due to the extend of my endo. I think usually it’s 1 night or out the same day, unless your surgery is for stage 4 endo etc. x

Sorry to hear that huni.

Thanks, will be taking an overnight bag just incase! X

I stayed overnight but I had a complication. I think everyone's different but take an overnight bag just to be safe. Remember to take lip balm, my mouth was bone dry for 5 hours after the surgery and my lips and skin completely dried out. No matter how much water I drank! I also saw a tip about placing a cushion in front of your stomach so the seatbelt doesn't dig in to your wounds (on the drive home) it really works!

Good luck xx

Aw thank you, really appreciate that. Will do thanks! X

Didn't have to stay in but wish I had, the pain the first night in my bladder was horrific. If you're still in pain or can't wee properly, tell them even if you want to go home bc I wish more than anything i'd stayed in for help because that first night for me was something I wouldn't wish on anyone bc I was so desperate to be home, the hour drive in rush hour having to stop at every shop and house for the toilet and then the crippling bladder pain due to an undetected UTI from the catheter was horrific.

Also ask what meds you can take, I wasn't told anything about this and had only had morphine which wore off the second I was home and I had no clue about what I could take. Good luck x

Yes I agree with what some of the ladies have said. Make sure you can pee properly before you are sent out of the hospital - also make sure you know what pain meds you can take. Xx

Thanks girls! To be honest, I was going to just say I’d pee’d even though I hadn't...so I could get home! But you’ve made me think twice, plus I’m a nurse so I really should know better!! Thanks very much for the advice!! Did the hosp not give u painkillers to go home with? I’ve stocked up on para, dyhydrocodiene and tramamdol so hopefully be ok! Thanks again xx

Hi, I have had two now and didn’t have to stay last time - I was told I would have to be in for about 3 nights as it was on my bowel and stage 3 but in the end got told I could go home as long as I could keep down fluids and pee! So fingers crossed you get to go home. I only had some tramadol in Hospital then keeping dosed up on paracetemol and ibuprofen seems to have done the trick since I’ve been recovering. Good luck, hope it goes well for you

That’s good news! I guess it all depends how you are after the op. I’ve had a lap before but it was under surgeons, I stayed in that night but surgery was late in the day and I got home the next day! I’m sure they’ll want u discharged ASAP anyway. X

How did it go emma? Mine all went according to plan ovary, cyst which had 1 1/2 litres of fluid drained and tubes all removed. I was home yesterday afternoon, sore and some wind pains but otherwise ok xx

Hi huni. Glad all went to plan. Mine did an didnt! They ‘only’ found scar tissue and adhesions with no endo! Mixed feelings about it all really. I got kept in overnight but getting home soon.

Rest up and recover well :)
