So I had my lap yesterday and my consultant said she found some endometriosis but didn’t tell me where! She said it’s stage 2 and I will have a telephone conversation to go over it in more detail. She did diothermy to kill the tissue and said it went well. I had to stay in because I was sick and my blood pressure dropped quite low and my bladder was fast asleep! I eventually had a wee at 3am and they have let me come home this morning. They gave me loads of morphine in the hospital and have sent me home with paracetamol and codeine. Any suggestions for comfort/ pain/ how to get through the next week or so? My wounds are so sore and my belly feels so bruised and tender!
TIA ladies xx

I took 2 paracetamol every 4hrs and a hot water bottle. Dont use the stairs unless absolutely necessary if your bathroom is upstairs stay up there lol if its downstairs sleep on the sofa I found propping myself up with a V like pillow helped
Bad pain for about a week and then I started to get myself moving a little each day even just making a cuppa. By 2 weeks I was back to normal although I had back pain from all the sitting around I was bk 2 work after 4 weeks. You just have to listen to your body and do things at your own pace. I was very lucky to have family who came in a did things for me I couldn't fed my own cats for 3 weeks I couldn't bend down to pick up bowls.
Haha oh good tip thank you! I’ve got 2 weeks off to start with so I’ll see how I get on. Yeah it’s good having people to run round after you isn’t it, think my boyfriend is sick of me already and it’s only day 1 haha but he’s being brill to be fair x
If it hurts to sleep flat, try propping yourself up on pillows and cushions, that what I've had to do after laps. Drink peppermint tea for gas pains. Have laxatives on hand incase the codiene blocks you up. Try to mobilize for a short walk each day after the first few days as this helps the gas pain and mental health. If you have a few weepy days that's quite normal after anaesthetic. Find something good on Netflix
Wishing you a speedy recovery and some answers from your consultant x
I propped myself up in hospital last night and found that the comfiest position to sleep in, as I usually sleep on my side or front. Thanks for some great tips. How long were you out of action for? Thank you so much for your well wishes! Xx
I was out of action for nearly two months but it depends on what was done. I had excision as I had deep Endometriosis and a disastrous experience with a mirena coil inserted during the op so that would have impacted recovery. Also I have to be on my feet a lot at work and occupational health didn't want me back too soon. Your consultant and GP should be able to guide you as to how long you'll need don't put pressure on yourself to recover to someone else's timescale as we are all different. Listen to your body.
You should have been given a discharge note with a summary of the operative detail on. Does this not say where the endo was? Was it done by someone with a special interest in endo (so some additional training over the general gynaecology training)?
Make a request for your operation medical notes it's handy to have when you get round to follow up appointment....
Docs will only tell you so much and with the help of google you'll get your head round medical terms.
Recovery all depends on what was done and how well you were before op, just take things slowly and remember the outside is only a scratch compared to what's been prodded and poked on the inside.
Took me 8 wks before I went back to work but I had a very physical job.
I had my lap yesterday too! I’ve been really struggling today, can’t stand up straight and just so sore. It was really annoying as I didn’t get to speak with my surgeon yesterday! When I asked a nurse she just said “they removed lots of adhesions but you’ll find out more in your follow up appointment in 2 weeks.” I’m gutted that I didn’t even get to find out what they found or did. They were also investigating my fertility so I feel like I’ve just got this whole thing hanging over my head for the next 2 weeks when I should just be focused on recovery.
How are you feeling today? I find I feel worse today than I did yesterday, more sore, tender and swollen. That’s awful you didn’t get to speak to your surgeon, I only got that info off mine as I was in recovery and half awake, I’ve got to wait until 4th Jan to have my phone appointment to see what they did fully. I know it sounds dramatic but when I stand up I feel like everything is going to come out of my belly button!! Hope your doing well and feeling better soon xx
I’m feeling awful today, maybe it was because I was still groggy from the surgery yesterday but I felt I could at least move around. I completely understand what you mean about the belly button!! I tried to open the fridge door earlier and literally though my insides were going to pop! I can’t find any way to get comfortable in bed or on the sofa. Wow 4th of Jan is a long wait! It’s so mean that they make us wait this long to find out what they did to our own bodies! It’s so nice to talk to someone who’s going through the same thing. I hope you also start feeling better soon xx
Yes exactly! Might be too much info but have you got bad trapped wind? I have and I think that’s what’s causing a lot of my pain. I look about 6 months pregnant. I’m quite bruised too. Yes it’s lovely to speak to someone going through the same thing at the same time, feels like your not on your own!! Xx
I’ve got the worst trapped wind! My partner keeps joking that I look pregnant, which would definitely be more funny if I didn’t have the results of the fertility test hanging over my head. Luckily I haven’t had too bad of pain in my shoulders, just in my stomach and bum!! I can’t laugh, sneeze, cough without feeling like I’m about to rip in 2. How are you feeling energy wise? Xx
I’m the same, feels like it takes all my energy just to sit up. Been a bit emotional the last day too but I was told to expect that. Just getting really upset about the whole thing and struggling that my body is in this pain. Xx
We’ll get through this, one day at a time. At least we’re both one step closer to finding out some answers and hopefully the op will eventually help with symptoms - even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. I hope you’ve had a restful day xx
