Endo diet advice.

So after a spell in hospital to be told it's a flare up of my endo with possible more adhesions. Leading me to being referred for MORE surgery I have started the Endo diet this week (gluten/ wheat free, soya free, dairy free and no refined sugars).

I was just wondering if;

Anyone else is on this diet?

Has made a difference?

What has changed?

How long did it take to start working?

Hi Holl92, I'm on a similar diet you mention- although I'm not always 100% disciplined, but I do feel a huge difference after cutting out diary, gluten, and refined sugars.

I also try to avoi mould containing foods like peanuts and use natural cleaning and hygiene products and try to use as natural cosmetics as possible. Personally, I use non bleached pads, tissues and toilet paper, as bleach contains dioxin, which has been proven by scientific studies to cause endometriosis growth. So I use bamboo derived tissues, toilet paper, etc.

I can't remember how long it took me to feel the effects of these changes, but it was pretty quick.

Thank you for your reply. I never thought about products. Ill see how I get on with the diet. I'm hoping it works I'm desperate I will try anything, only had surgery 12 months ago today actually.. and it knocked me for 6 I was off my feet for weeks and it didn't do much help. Hi Holl, stick with it!

When i found out the severity of my endo I started researching into this to do everything possible to help with the symptoms. I did try to seek some guidance from my GP however unfortunately he was unwilling to really comment on whether this would do me any good or not (so much for always consulting your GP before you make any changes to your diet eh!)

I've been on it for just over a month now and i've cut out gluten, dairy, soy, meat (organic is ok as it isn't pumped full of growth hormones) and refined sugars. I was previously taking mefanamic acid every 4-6 hours and was really struggling with pain, bloating and discomfort and some pretty embarassing side affects on the bowel front. Since making the changes, i get some twinges now and then and I honestly haven't taken any painkillers in a couple of weeks. I had to take some time off work to really get my head around this, i packed myself full of fruit and veg through soups and smoothies and done a lot of research into vegan and raw diets. There are lots of books out there which have great recipes (I'd recommend One part plant by Jessica Murnane and Deliciously Ella) I haven't been 100% strict cos i feel when you really want that piece of chocolate you should just bloody well have it! :-)

I should also dd that I found stress to be a major factor in my pain as well. As soon as i started removing things from my diet and replacing them with the good stuff, i started to see my skin clearing up, I lost the 24/7 bloated feeling and I lost a bit of weight too. The food change has made me feel better all round and has gave me some energy back which has had a positive impact on my general wellbeing, and as such I believe helped with my endo symptoms.

As Ugne mentioned there is so much more you can do, i'm only just starting to look at using natural and organic products such as toiletries and make up. The thing that scared me the most was the chemicals that are in tampons and sanitary wear when we are putting these things into our body!!! I also now use a fully natural vegan shampoo and conditioner.

I'd really encourage you to keep going with it, its been one of the best things i've ever done. When you start really looking into this and reading labels you see the amount of chemicals that we put into our bodies daily!

Great attitude, jen180284. Small steps forward worked best for me too in creating solid changes in my habits. Otherwise it all may feel too overwhelming, then i'd start feeling guilty, which doesn't help. Especially during this festive season :)

Personally, i keep reminding myself 'don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good'.

Hi I've cut out gluten and only eat bovine dairy, no refined sugars apart from cereal because I cant find any breakfast I can eat and chocolate which I know I shouldnt have but I do because I'm trying not to loose anymore weight or I will eventually be underweight also I like chocolate too much 😂 Cutting out gluten has helped I no longer have hot spells and feel like I'm going to be sick but my bodies weird like today I feel totally fine some days/weeks I feel nausous everyday no matter what I eat 😮 Somedays my belly decides its lactose intolerant some days it decides it cant stand eggs 😂Also even after I have a salad I get an endo belly 😭 I think it just depends on you and your body I think it trial and error 😮 I would say try it stick to the endo diet and I would say it has helped for me slightly 🙂

I've been using the endo diet and it has definitely helped with bloating and pain. Itsb not a cure but it does help, definitely. I buy organic food when I can. I always buy organic decafftea , caff coffee, sanitary products and toiletries. Best to buy these in bulk on the internet if you are on a budget. I also like organic raw cacao chocolate bars eg Loving Kind and Mr Popple's Chocolate. They contain no refined sugar (sugar is inflammatory ) and are made with organic cacao. They are pricey but more satisfying than the usual sugar laden chocolate so it's easier to make a bar last and raw cacao is a good source of magnesium which helps your energy levels.
