Laparoscopy

Well, to say it has been a while is an understatement. I have been muddling through some colposcopy appointments and the endo has taken a back seat. However, that is soon to change as my Laparoscopy is booked for 2 November.

I do hope this results in a formal diagnosis of Endometriosis. What has everybody else's journeys been like? Has anyone else had a lap?

I’ve had two laparoscopies, one to remove my left tube when they found I had endometriosis, the second a year later to excise a lot of it. Be prepared to stay in overnight, though this isn’t always necessary. Stock up on peppermint tea as this will help with the bloating/pain afterwards.

Although it’s keyhole surgery they are still going through the abdominal wall so don’t overdo it the first few weeks afterwards. You will have pain in your shoulders for a couple of days afterwards where the air is trying to escape, so take all the painkillers you can. The pain feels like it will never end when you’re going through it but believe me after a couple of days you’ll feel so much better.

Is there any particular part of the surgery/recovery you’re unsure or have questions about? Xxx

The scars healing. I don't mind having scars, I just worry they won't heal very well. The thought of infection scares me. I have it on the 2nd and fly out on holiday on 22nd so I only have really 20 days to recover before I need to be moving properly again xx

The scars healed well for me both times, stitches came out after about ten days maybe (dissolvable ones). I think you have to keep the wounds covered for a few days after you get home but then you’re fine to get them wet in the shower or bath. Just ask if pool/sea water will be ok after three weeks recovery time. Whilst they are in there I’d get them to remove what they can, save you having further surgery for as long as possible, just be very clear on your consent forms what you are/are not willing to have done xxxx

Aw thank You! I'm a terrible swimmer so pools/sea water is not a worry. Didn't realise it took so long for the stitches to heal or come out. Xxxxxx

I'm having a lap in 4 weeks and absolutely terrified! Hate the idea of going under, and my womb is so sensitive to touch that the thought of something even touching it let alone going in it makes me feel a bit sick! Fingers crossed for you that you get the results you're after! x

I just want them to go in and go yeah, we were correct, you have Endometriosis and Adenomyosis. Don't necessarily want them to take anything out unless they need to. Just want the assurance that after almost 8 years they know why I'm suffering. Would hate for them to say they've got it wrong. Can't start again after all this time. Xx

I feel that, really hope you get your answers! People think it's weird when you want to have a chronic illness but like it's the reassurance of having an answer!

100% - my scans do seem to show endometriosis but I just worry. Hope this is my answer so I can move on and forward !
