I am waiting for the date of my first laparoscopy and I have been under anesthetic before (x3 times various ops) has anyone else suffered with vomiting after when they are home and is it painful for your stomach? I am really nervous to put myself through this. Has anyone got any anti sickness tricks/tips?? xx

hi, im waiting for my second lap. i have had one before though. its really not that bad, yes you need recovery time but its not an horrendous operation. i was off work for two weeks but I probably didn't need that long its only because i stand on my feet all day is why I took a bit extra time off. you just need to make sure you have plenty of rest, make sure all staff caring for you on the day know how you react, you know your own body best. i suffer with fainting with ops, piercings etc. no idea why i just do, so i make sure i make them aware of this so they let me go at my own pace after the op. you will be fine try not to worry xx
Hi hun, thanks for this, yes I will defo be letting them know how I handle anesthetic. Was you in and out the same day or did you stay over? Also what pain relief did they give you at the hosp?
Also do you have any scars its another thing im really worried about.
Yes I was sick when I got home and if I have to have a general again I will tell them so they can adjust the anti sickness drugs (anti-emetics). I also wish I'd told them when I was on the ward as apparently they might have been able to give me something there... but I didn't as I was determined to get home!
Regarding scars, I have three small scars. I've been using bio oil twice a day on them religiously for the past six months since the lap and two are barely noticeable now. My tummy button one is visible but probably only to me. I'll still be wearing a bikini on holiday. 😀
thats okay i was in and out on the same day, im sure if they thought u had to keep you in they would but it is classed as day surgery. i just had co - codamol because another thing i cant do is take certain meds because they make me feel sick and i get headaches (im never straight forward lol) so i know how you feel. i just stress to them how i am i dont care if they think im dramatic etc because like i said you know your own body and they wont know if you dont make them aware i have a small scar just in my belly button you wouldnt even notice unless you looked closely, i went on holiday a month after having my lap, and i have a very hands on needing daughter who is severly autistic and i was able to pick her up a couple weeks later (shes 5, 3 at the time) you will be fine honestly. xx
At my first two ops I was really sick. I now take in sea bands to put on my wrists. At my last lap I told the anesthetist and he was great so he must have adapted what was to be given as for the first time ever I wasn't sick. I also asked for herbal tea esp peppermint when they came round with the tea trolley - nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
The first couple were with the NHS, my last one was private hospital. All gave me pain medication after the op. I had to tell them I was allergic to tramadol etc beforehand. I hope you op goes well
