Positive energy to get me through

It's been just over 2 weeks since my laparoscopy. I went back to work just under 2 weeks after - and a word from the wise, take as long off as you need! I'm suffering post op fatigue really bad and I'm doing big, busy and even a back-to-back shift this bank holiday and - right now - I'm struggling to even get out of bed! Bearing in mind I'm probably looking at a minimum 12 hour shift today. My wound sites are still sore - not unbearable but it's hard to take all those painkillers and do shifts on your feet! Plus I have a seroma which isn't huge but seems to like getting in the way while I'm working... I refuse to ring in ill again as I've given enough of myself and my career to this endo business but honestly, I wish I'd taken all the sick notes they could throw at me. Don't make my mistake!

Big get well energy sent to you.

Just to add, if you really feel bad, do call in sick, it's not giving in, sometimes the bravest thing we can do with chronic illness is admit we need to rest and take care of ourselves. If you push too hard, it can mean more time having to rest/recover afterwards.

Don't be afraid to take the time off that you need to recover! Endo is crappy enough without you risking extending your recovery time by going back to work too soon! After my surgery, I got a lot of pressure from my old boss to get back to work but I knew I needed to be firm and let my body heal.

I hope you are feeling better by the time you read this. I think we women sometimes feel pressure to be "super women." I had laparoscopic surgery on July 20. At the post op exam the doctor said I could go back to work and resume my regular activities. I am so glad that I listened to the signs my body was giving me and told him I wasn't well enough to return and asked for another week's note. Even returning to work the following week was too soon. The traveling and going up and down the steps in the subway were too much. I was in terrible pain for a week and a half. Thank God I am feeling much better now as I enter 6 weeks post surgery. Doctors, bosses and medical insurance companies want to hurry us back to work, but if you possibly can Afford it take the extra time. We need to be kind to ourselves, to ask help from others when needed and to listen to what our bodies tell us. This way we will assist the healing process, not work against it. Hugs and prayers for your full recovery and happiness.
