Laparoscopy tomorrow...

I've got a laparoscopy booked for tomorrow, as the doctor has pushed me through (benefits of private!) after only having a consultation Friday. At the same time he is going to remove my implant, and put in a Mirena coil.

I'm just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how I'll feel afterwards. Obviously all depends on each person, but I've never gone under GA, and never had a coil, so I'm expecting some pain on top of what I'm already experiencing. I've told work I'll let them know when I can come back in, and they've been very sympathetic to it. Boyfriend has booked off work to look after me bless his heart but I'm not good at sitting around feeling sorry for myself?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Don't worry, it is a common procedure.

And it is wonderful you can be helped so quickly!!

I have had two laparoscopies with hysteroscopies and removal of minor adhesions. In the second one they also did a bladder Investigation.

I had quite lot of pain the first about 3 to 5 days after the laps. Especially with going to the potty but also my shoulder hurt quite badly because of the gas.

After that I was tired for about 2 weeks and after that I felt normal again.

On the long term the laps did not help but that was because they missed the endo and I have other autoimmune diseases.

I just had my first lap and mirena coil fitted on tuesday, i didn't know what to expect but had booked a week off work, but told them depending how well it goes/what they find maybe i'll need 2 off.

The actual procedure didn't take too long, i think i was under for around an hour to an hour and a half, i woke up in a lot of pain starting from my belly button and then the wind pain took over mostly in my shoulder and chest, that was by far the worst part for me since they pump you full of air it gets stuck before it comes out! I should also add no endo was found and treated for me so i think recovery would be longer if it was.

due to the wind pain and general stomach pain however that wasn't too bad just my tummy muscles felt a bit useless, i also was really nauseous when i woke up which lasted a couple of days, those things meant i had to stay in overnight as i just wasn't able to get up and go home comfortably. however i did get seen really late in the day so i would say if you are going in the morning expect to go home later and if you get seen in the afternoon maybe expect to stay. I also could not stop weeing after the procedure i literally went about 20 times from waking up around 6.30pm afterwards to going home the following morning.

With the mirena it has only been a few days but so far so good, i have had some pains from it but no more than bad period pains, and so far i have had no bleeding from it yet which is good too.

I'll be honest how i felt after the procedure and probably the next day was quite a bit worse than i expected, however within every roughly 12 hour period so from like when i wake up and then go to bed i have felt so much better so quickly. It's been 5 days and i feel really good just have slight period pains still and need to be careful with rolling around in bed or bending fully still, but i will be back to work on tues and i think i'll be ready.

Plenty of rest really take it easy, but do try to get up and walk around the house every few hours to help the wind, i have had morphine prescribed by my GP for home recovery and it's really been helpful. Hot water bottle will be your new best friend, and stay propped up in bed with lots of pillows. Good luck you'll be fine xxx
