Hi guys

New to this so i want loads of advice. 43 yr old, had pcos at 19 and have always had horrendous periods. Took of microgynon at 38 and theyve got worse, now in pain all time in lower left groin. Feels like im ripping or stretching when move.

What i want to know is if anything has worked for you ladies? Hysterectomy? The pill? Stopping period?

There noone that can say " try this" or " this worked for me", better then u lot who have all been strong women and gone through it all.

At mo my husbands having to tie my hands together as i keep threatening to rip my own ovaries out but i dont think this is way forward YET

For me it has taken a hysterectomy + bso + excision of all the endo, which I had nearly 12 weeks ago. Off all painkillers, and apart from the hot flushes (I will hopefully be able to start hrt next week) I feel great. However this is massive surgery and not for everyone.

What a bso, sorry as i said totally new to all this. I was already thinking about hysterectomy before i got worse as i have put up with this for so long now i dont need it any longer. It sad really as i wanted one 10 years ago but they wouldnt give me one as i had no children but i always said i never wanted any but they wouldnt take me seriously! Ten years on in pain and never changed me mind...

a bso is a bilateral salpingoophorectomy, which is a fancy way of saying removing your fallopian tubes and ovaries. Sometimes this is done with a hyst but not always. Basically all I have left now is a vagina. Everything else has gone.

So far (touch wood) I'm doing really well but how things will pan out long term, I don't know. It is a horrible surgery and should be absolutely the last resort when everything else has failed. I'd had a mirena, decapeptyl, prostap, cerazette and norethisterone, none of which had really worked, and I was in a huge amount of pain and very unwell. I had the surgery carried out at the main specialist centre in London so I was confident that the consultant knew what he was doing. I should also add that I was not able to have a more conservative surgery and just have the endometriosis alone excised because of the extent of my bowel disease combined with my adenomyosis. But so far I don't regret my decision. I could not have carried on as I was.

I have been taking milk thistle to help my liver get rid of excess oestrogen and also evening primrose oil to try and help stabilise hormone levels I've also found m&s seamless tights a god send with bloating and stomach pain as I wear tights 4 times a week for work! Nothing ground breaking I'm afraid x

I understand a hysterectomy any kind of surgery is last result, unfortunately i have many other probs ie liver failure and anaphalaxis to most antibiotics so sometimes it case of having to have surgery coz i cant have infections or anything that may cause infections or any tablets that can upset liver function. So it a horrible vicious circle for me.
