Just wondering if anyone else tends to get this problem or I'm just prone to it? It tends to be when i cave and have a second glass of wine.
Acid tummy: Just wondering if anyone else... - Endometriosis UK
Acid tummy
Me!
2 years ago now they thought I had a stomach ulcer.
I've had loads of tests, different doctors and no help / answers.
They think it's because I have EDS (diagnosed in the last year)but have also suggested a low histimine diet. Might be worth a look into?
I can't really drink alcohol, eat acidic fruit, spicy food, coffee etc but can sometimes if I do so straight after eating (I find something carby works best).
I do too! I can't do wine, spicy foods, garlic and I have to watch my dairy and egg intake. I always have gaviscon in my bag.
I have this, after a terrible flare up around 2 years ago I had a camera down my throat (cant remember the name gastro endoscopy?) and they found I have erosive gastritis (erosion of my throat and stomach). I can only attribute this to years of non steroid anti inflamatory tablets (NSAIDS) which I now know (but didnt know then and was not warned) often cause stomach problems. I now cannot take any NSAID. The consultant also said to avoid fatty, fried and spicy food and neat spirits (boring!) I'm also very careful with acidic food (vitamin c tablets once caused horrendeous pain). I am on tablets now and dont think this will ever go away, the worst flare up I have ended up in hospital so I would suggest if you take any pain killers to be very careful. x
Yes! And, weirdly, it's been much, much worse since my lap 7 weeks ago!
How bizarre. I'd never have though to connect such a thing. I wonder why. I've progressively noticed that i couldn't use so much vinegar on my chips, eat too much tomatoey sauces or tolerate wine.
I don't historically use all that many NSAIDs painkillers, but have been taking them more so i guess there might be a connection. What sort of dosage / frequency / duration tends to trigger it.?
Usually soya milk and two renneis does the trick
It you do still need the NSAIDS try to take them after food and not on an empty stomach to reduce the acid pain. When I was still taking them my consultant advised to take one and one paracetamol instead of so many NSAIDS which I thought would be useless but together I found it helpful. I know that I took more tablets than were prescribed but I was in so much pain I didnt even think about any side affects. On another note, personally, I avoid soy as I beleive it is bad for endometriosis.
Thanks, I'm definitely being careful with tablets.
I did a fair bit of research into the soya debate. Original studies said it was bad but the latest studies lean towards soya, which is particularly high in
phyto-oestrogens being mildly positive. It was first thought that as oestrogen stimulates endo, plant oestrogens would do the same.
But the newer research suggests there are only so many receptors that oestrogen can latch onto and recent thinking is that
phyto-oestrogens (which are much weaker) will occupy some of the receptors and prevent the much stronger oestradiol from attaching (the driver of endo and oestrogen cancers) so overall reducing intake. Latest clinical opinion now seems to be leaning toward soya as having protective effects due to this.
Earlier positive studies did also exist from Japan where tofu is a traditional diet component and a
lower incidence of Endo is recorded.
I would still definitely avoid GM products and buy organic (pesticide free) quality brands (Alpro, cauldron etc) which are origin certified.
