Preparing for laparoscopy

Hi ladies, I was wondering if anyone could help. I'm waiting for a date for my laparoscopy and I am terrified. Honestly (as I need to prepare myself) is it as bad recovering as the websites make it out to be? How much pain am I going to be in reality?

Katie :)

Everyone react differently to the operation. On the internet you tend to read more negative stories. I had extensive surgery to remove endometriosis lesions. I was in hospital for 3 nights. I hardly experienced any pain. Did not require any pain killers either.

So don't worry too much. Try to eat well and put your body in the best condition for the operation.

Stock up on gas x and stool softener and you should be fine. I feel like they don't really prepare you for the amount of gas you have and how much pain that gas can cause. Good luck!!

No not at all, when I had mine just after the op when they woke me up I felt sick for a bit but soon came round n left hospital after 2 hours, couldn't wait to get home lol, yeah u need to rest n take painkillers but it's really not that bad xx

Recovery for me was fine. I spent the night in hospital but they had given me IV morphine during the op and I felt so relaxed and really good! (surprisingly!) They gave me codeine to take home but I didn't need to take any. The worst was the trapped gas, but that doesn't last too long.

The worst bit for me was the gas pain. It lasted nearly a week, but keep as mobile as you can and it disperses quicker. The actual op isn't that painful just uncomfortable. Good luck, you'll be fine!
