I am due my first lap in the coming weeks and this forum is overloaded with really awful follow up stories following lap and mirena coil fitting. Are there any positives out there???

Any lap & mirena positive stories
Yes! I had a mirena coil fitted during my last laparoscopy at the start of 2015 and have had no problems whatsoever.
I also read the horror stories online and was really worried about it. It was actually a woman at Bupa who reassured me - I called up to get the approval code for the procedure and unprompted she told me she'd had a mirena coil and it was the best thing she'd ever done.
I had my lap and Mirena fitted on 11 August and I have had no pain or problems at all from the Mirena - I wouldn't even know it was there! So far my recovery has been very similar to my first lap when I didn't have Mirena. X
Thanks ladies X
Hi. ZOE. as a recently retired theatre nurse I can tell you a laparoscopy is not awful.it can tell a surgeon a great deal as they can look all over your organs and they usually do before going "southern region's" A MIRENA is fitted from down below straight into uterus with its own applicator.yes you might feel period like pain for a couple of hours but that's all, listen to the theatre team and no scare stories
The mirena has been my life saver. I have had it in since the end of March and my quality of life has improved significantly! I no longer have the daily pain I used to have, pain during sex and exercise. I have never felt so good about myself!
I too was reluctant to get it fitted due to all of the horror stories on the internet but I am so glad I got it fitted. I already know that I will get it after I have had children too, its that good!
If I am being honest with you though, when I first got it fitted I was in a lot of pain the first week and then got my period which was horrendous. I got a few back aches and my boobs were sore for a few months but now I am perfect!! Periods are literally nothing too!! My boobs have gone up a cup size even after loosing weight but I suppose it isn't the worst thing to happen lol. Good luck!!
Thankyou so much, it's so easy to get bogged down in the horror stories, you've lifted my nervous spirits
I remember asking for opinions on the mirena before my 2nd lap. And I got good and bad stories it was pretty much 50/50.
But my nurse told me it would hurt to fit the coil while you're awake. So that made my mind up!
I have had my coil for almost 8 months and haven't had a period for 3 or 4 months. Which is fabulous, I always used to have to call in sick at work because of how bad my periods were.
The first 3 months were hard, I had endo and endometriomas removed so I had pain from surgery recovery. And I was bleeding for the first 1 and a half, it was fairly light. But it did get me down, I didn't feel like myself. But the bleeding gradually stopped and my mood approved.
So do hang in there and give it time to settle down. And hopefully it works out well for you. I couldn't imagine not having a Mirena coil, it has meant I can live my life.
Hi- yes you are right I have read some terrible write ups from women, we girlys tend to over exaggerate things which can be scary to others. Just listen to your surgeon, any questions ask them for input, as a retired gynae surgery nurse I can say to you that the New Mirena has proved a good friend to some ladies (it really depends if you like the idea of having one) our minds play awful tricks if we convince ourselves its not right-give it timje it can come out via your g.p if you really don't get on with it.. Good Luck
