Pain plus weird fever/chills, nausea, diarrhea... has anyone had this with endometriosis?

About six weeks ago I ended up in A&E after blacking out in the out-of-hours GP office... my symptoms (apart from fainting!) were sudden lower right side pain, chills (legs shaking uncontrollably), hot flushed face, nausea and diarrhea. I had a raised WBC count.

Basically, they worked me up for appendicitis but couldn't find enough to justify surgery, then discharged me with a question mark after scans showed nothing obvious.

I just wondered if any of this - low grade fever, chills, shaking, nausea, bowel issues - sound familiar to anyone who has been diagnosed with endometriosis? I saw a gynae a couple of weeks ago who said it could possibly be this, though she couldn't find anything wrong with the pelvic organs on ultrasound.

I've read up on the most common symptoms of endo and it doesn't really seem to match that well - I have had period pain, but it's more of a dull ache in the whole pelvis and legs, and I wouldn't normally take painkillers for it because it feels more like recovering from exercise than anything. My cycle is fairly regular, if a bit long. Sometimes the blood is a bit clotty (sorry, TMI). But has anyone else experienced a sudden onset of something that seemed like a pelvic or bowel infection, only to find it was endo? I had a flare up of it last night during the early hours and woke up shivering, heart racing, flushed face, felt like I'd been poisoned, nauseous all night. My period is very overdue.

Also, and I did have a bit of unexpected pain with sex during these weeks but it was quite on and off. Normally I don't have any problem with sex.

What do you think, does it sound like it could be endo...? Has anyone had a raised white cell count because of it?

crossrabbit I had exactly the same symptoms (including raised WBC) over a year ago and went to A&E. They discharged me a few hours later with antibiotics and a suspected ruptured ovarian cyst. I had a gynae follow up a few weeks later and the US showed a cyst on my left ovary. I am now two weeks passed laparoscopy and had a large choc cyst and endometriosis removed.

I'm not sure if my reply helps at all, as there could be a number of reasons you are experiencing these problems, but I would suggest you keep pushing for an answer. Did they do a transvaginal scan too as these can be more clear? I would suggest you go back and discuss with your GP or think about going private. Nobody should suffer this much pain!! xx

Thanks xkaax, it sounds like in a way you were lucky that they found something definite on the scan, though it must have been quite a long wait for the lap if you only just had it two weeks ago! Believe it or not I've had two transvag scans now, had MRI in hospital, seen a private consultant and gynae (insured through work, thank goodness) and had copious blood tests and an infection swab and still no-one has any idea. What kind of surgeon did your laparoscopy, was it a specialist gynae surgeon or a general surgeon? I'd rather have one done on the NHS as I kind of trust their hospitals more but the waiting times are just so long... x

I experience some of the symptoms you describe. Recently had to stop myself from blacking out in the middle of a meeting, started feeling very hot and sweaty, nauseous, and could feel myself going . . luckily there was chocolate on the table so nibbled on that to get my sugar level up and kept drinking water as that would have been mortifying! But it has been very common for me to throw up due to the pain and it irritates my bowels as well, i pretty much feel like i just want to die it's awful. Unfortunatly I have not found anything that helps me with my symptoms apart from curling up in bed with a hot water bottle, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one that seems to go through this. Hopefully you will find some relief soon xx

Thanks for your reply, did you feel like passing out because of the pain or was it faintness on its own? Have you had a laparoscopy or anything like that? It sounds awful. You definitely have worse pain than me, I would describe mine as annoying but not excruciating!

Hi crossrabbit.

I know this post was 4years ago but i have just stumbled upon your post as i am sat up at 1am googling what could be causing me awful night shivers for the past few days. My symptoms very much match yours and i have suspected endometriosis. My menstrusl cycle is very much like yours too

I have all the symptoms you have described. I am waking up throughout the night, jumping out of my sleep with awful shivers/chills, followrd by diarrhoea, nausea and a feeling of passing out.my body feels like very strange almost as though im about to pass out. Its very scary.

I was wondering if you did ever find out if yours was endo related?

Same for me! Except for the diarrhea, it was occasional. Nothing showed on scan but they gave me a possible diagnosis of endometriosis based on symptoms. It’s still under investigation though. Have you been lucky to figure out what it could possibly be?

Best wishes for you.

Thank you for explaining your symptoms same happening to me every month just cried my eyes out reading this I’ve been so ill since Sunday haven’t slept awake all night for four days shivering then boiling hot faint feel sick dizzy really scary am so weak now I have endometriosis and adenomyosis and degenerative bone disease in hip because of heavy bleeding so I’m in pain all the time I’m so scared I can’t function and scared to be on my own 😞

I’m sorry you had to go through all of this. I’m currently experiencing almost all of your symptoms and had a possible diagnosis of endometriosis but not an official one as nothing is showing on scan

I’m just curious if you had any official diagnosis or received any treatment to manage your symptoms.

Best wishes for you.
