Feeling confused. Expected a laparoscopy but told I now need hysterectomy. 42 yrs old.

In brief...

Pelvic pain intermittent for about 5 years after coming off Pill.

Fibroids detected on u/s scan.

Menstrual bleeding and clotting worsened over time, becoming unbearable.

(Diagnosed and treated for Thyroid Cancer 2013).

Ferritin level measured 10 in 2014.

Suspected endometriosis due to searing pain results in Mirena coil fitted April 2015.

Fibroids measured largest at 3.7 cm September 2015.

Consultant said that if Mirena did not help, then laparoscopy was the next course of action.

Ultrasound Scan May 2016, Fibroids have doubled in size.

Consultant now believes that pain is from Fibroids, not endometriosis due to rapid growth and symptoms being more constant.

Due to receive Zoladex and HRT, but feeling uncomfortable with this.

I really hoped that a laparoscopy would sort me out. I was mentally prepared for this.

I'm really worried about the Zoladex and HRT, and how it will make me feel. I'm already struggling with extreme fatigue, zero libido, and aching joints due to being thyroidless.

Any advice will be massively appreciated. TIA x

Hi, sounds like you gave been through alot already,

Endometreosis can cause daily pain, as well as fibroids,

If I was you I would ask to be seen by a bsge specialist centre. As if you gave both and do have a hysterectomy without a thorough excision of endo you could still be in pain from endo,

I had a hysterectomy in July last year for adenomyosis I also have Endo and had a laparoscopy and removal of endo. In march last year, I'm still in pain, and am now on zolodez, 4th month and the pain has eased a little but not great still,

I'm thankfully under a bsge specialist centre and am now awaiting another laparoscopy to see if anything was left behind, as general gyne often miss endo in certain locations

If you would like any more info, I'm happy to help if I can, xxx

Thank you for responding.

I have asked for a second opinion from an alternative consultant, but am waiting for an appointment.

I agree that I need to investigate finding a bsge specialist.

What were your symptoms of adenomyosis? Did you know about that before hysterectomy?

Also why are you still on Zoladex post hysterectomy?

Sorry for all the questions!

Hope you get relief soon x

Ask away, it's no problem

I was diagnosed with adenomyosis and endo in march last year at the same lap my surgeon supposably excised all ENDO THAT HE FOUND. No change in symtons, periods where like giving birth every 3 weeks, daily back pain hip pain pelvic area pain leg pain ect, so I had hysterectomy for the adenomyosis but I'm still in pain, bCk pain much better and obviously don't have the periods, but ciz of age he left overies in as they was healthy,

So my bsge specialist now put me on zolodez for pain upto my laparoscopy and he is thinking of taking overies out and hopefully find the endo that is causing the problem.

Xxx
