Endometriosis and contraception advice.

Hi, new to here. Looking for some advice.  I was diagnosed with endometriosis 20 years ago. Have been on contraception since I was 14 years old to manage symptoms. Been on deprovera injection for the last 13 years which has been amazing. However, I have come off it as I want to try for a child next year. I have been put on the mini pill (cerazette and levonorgestrel) but hate it, irritable, acne and nausea. I'm not allowed to go on the combined pill. Debating whether to go for non hormonal but worried that my symptoms may come back. What do you ladies use? Are there any non hormonal methods with other medications that can be used?

Thank you

I'm wondering this too! I was told to get the Mirena iud. I haven't yet because it's for 4 years and I want a kid. I've been using natural progesterone cream which my doctor said was ok.

Thank you for your reply. What is progesterone cream? How do you use it? Sorry for my ignorance just never heard of it.

It is natural progesterone cream. I but it at the vitamin store. You rub it onto your skin every day. It doesn't prevent pregnancy but does help balance out the estrogen.

I would say the mirena coil and you can have it removed at anytime and your periods return almost immediately. Can I just ask you say you were on the depo provera for 13 years that's along time how long did it take for your periods to return? As the longest I have used it for is 2 years and it took a year for my periods to return. Also it can cause thinning of the bones have you had a DEXA scan to check your bones? I wish you the best for falling pregnant.

Thank you for your reply. I can only have the mirena coil under general anaesthetic as I had had previous surgery so I'm not allowed to have it until I have had a child. I did a risk v benefit assessment on the injection. The FRSH state a small loss of bone density (although more so after 13years of use) which should return once it is discontinued. I always had a high calcium diet and i live a healthy life style so no one was concerned. I haven't broken anything yet, (touch wood) so no I haven't had a DEXA scan. I haven't had a period yet as I went straight onto the mini pill. Hence why I am thinking that I should now go non hormonal for my contraception. I'm scared though of going back to life as it was. I'm taking a realistic approach to trying for a child as age is also against me but I will try and if it doesn't happen then I have to just accept life as it is. Many thanks for your best wishes.
