Any1 have any advice on the mirena coil treatment for endometriosis & adenomyosis? I've just recently had prostap 3 month injection which failed, my consultant gave me 2 options have the coil or have my womb removed :(

Any advice would be greatly appreciated I'm at a loss of what to do :(

I have had the coil in twice. First time during a lap six years ago but it was uncomfortable (the op was a bit botch too, which never helps). And again last year, whilst awake. I love it! Apart from my skin behaving differently - a result from being on the pill for 15 years and change in hormones - bleeding has reduced, pain has reduced and my misery is almost gone!

Certainly try it. You can always have it removed, so why not? X

Hi Amanda

I've had the coil for 7 months, hardly any bleeding and hardly any pain, go for it and try it. If it doesn't work you can have it removed.

All the best x

Other than a bit of an odd pattern to my bleeding (but MUCH less than before) the coil has been great for me with both Endo and Adeno, reduced frequency of pain, lessened bleeding, less pain during sex (apparently due to the coil reducing the amount of endometrium equaling less inflammation) ... really has helped. Everybody around me says they have noticed a huge difference in my health and wellbeing in general. I was sooooo skeptical about getting the Mirena because i hated the thought of something being left there for 5 years & how it would affect me, the first few weeks were soooooo hard with pain & spotting but after that I forget its there :) good luck xx

Thanks girls that helped a bit :) I'm reluctant atm cause the hormone treatment I've just had was horrible with nasty side effects I'm scared of anymore lol. the coil was offered to me as the last treatment before major surgery, will have to maybe give it ago, is the pain with it bad? Xx

Hi Amanda sorry to hear that I hav severe endometriosis for 25 years now was diagnosed with adenomyosis in 2014 , I had mirena fitted in surgery which did help to some extent , I had a new procedure for adenomyosis called artery embolisation for adenomyosis this surgery was helpful so I didn't lose my womb now on depecytyl injections and I'm doing well minimal pain but hav side effects from drugs , I hope this makes sense and you find it helpful , good luck Rachel
