Anti-depressants...?

I have waited so long for lap had it done, then removed nothing as worse then previously thought!

Now got have bowel and womb un fused in another op, MRI scan and yet more waiting.

Then more time off work. Whilst suffering with painful stage 4 endo and under active thyroid.

Work are not mean , yet not supportive.

doctor said I need ant depressants as I may be suffering from post traumatic stress as said I waited 18th weeks in pain to get fixed , then didn't so body's in shock, and I'm super emotional.

Soooo thought I'd ask you ladies if they help or not?

scared of getting addicted, but feel like I'm not in a good place progress wise and it's defeating me!

Thanks in advance ladies, prefer ask you girls as I know you know what it's like to live with this exhausting illness.

I'm sorry you're going through so much!

I have PTSD (not related to endo, but from other things that have happened to me) and am taking anti-depressants. I find the one I'm currently taking to be somewhat helpful with my ability to stay on an even keel emotionally, but not by any means a total solution. I found therapy and going through a partial hospitalization program to be more helpful in learning how to cope.

My personal belief is that there isn't one answer to whether antidepressants help or not, I think it depends on the person and is hard to predict in advance.

Anti-depressants are not addictive per se in that they don't make you crave more of them, but you can have bad effects from going off of them abruptly. It's usually best to gradually taper on to and off of most psychiatric medications.

I hope that you feel better whatever you end up deciding to do.

Thank you for your reply what dose are you on?

With me having under active thyroid my mood can be low anyway, so think my doc wanted prescribe due to this.

I'm feeling not so emotionally drained this week.

I have a highly pressured job as a manager in charge of a big team, so don't think this helps.

Ecspecially with endo treatment also

I'm taking 20 mg of escitalopram a day. How many mg to take varies a lot depending on which antidepressant.

That does sound like a stressful job.
