Zoladex buddies

I know there have been lots of posts about Zoladex and its side effects. I had my first injection on 20 Jul in preparation for my surgery (pelvic clearance) in November. I wanted to make a thread for ladies who are approximately at the same stage with Zoladex, so we can support each other. I don't feel any side effects yet but it's only day 4 and I'm expecting the worst, I've read horror stories.

I'm feeling more in control if I'm prepared, then I can hopefully rationalise it as 'it's not me, it's the Zoladex". I am especially worried about migraines and depression ( I have a history of migraines and anxiety).

I’ve had five, no side effects that I’m aware of, although it’s not done anything for me. That’s as far as I’m concerned, consultant thinks otherwise re endo.

If you do have side effects do go back to GP or consultant.

I had a period still after the first one.

Hi, Im in the same position as you, Im having pelvic clearance in October. I've been on Zoladex for 8 months now with HRT but next week Im having Prostap and no HRT becasuse Im coming up to surgery. My side effects have been ok so far had a few headaches at the begining as it kicked in, but none after the first month or so. I do now get night sweats as Im off the HRT, so far thats been it but I'll see what its like with the Prostap next week. Good luck

Thanks everyone

It's very weird, knowing that I will start feeling unwell but not feeling any effects so far. Still only 4 days in though so very early days. My consultant said he doesn't want to put me on HRT as this would add estrogen when the purpose is to take it away, but at the same time delayed my starting Zoladex because with the lockdown he wasn't sure he would be able to really keep an eye on me, with my migraines...

Do you mind if I ask what symptoms you have bcec? The endo must be extensive since you're having a pelvic clearance. I am one of those who doesn't have a lot of pain except for 2 or 3 episodes in as many years, so it came as a complete surprise. My life was turned upside down overnight.

Hi, I found I needed 2 zoledex before the effects really kicked in. My one next week will take me through to the operation so I'll see what the really side effects are now Im without HRT. So far its been ok though. You poor thing I do feel for you, I was only diagnoised a couple of years ago I'd never heard of Endometrosis before that.

Im a bit of a long story but always had heavy really painful periods, back pain and pain when ovulating but just thought that was the way things were, I definately haven't had it bad like some poor women on here, I've never been in so much pain that I couldn't work and painkillers in the most have worked for me. It wasn't until a couple of years ago when I started to get irregualar periods that I got checked out, they found huge cysts on my ovaries which were stuck to my bowel and uterus with Endometrosis. In the past 3 years I've had 5 laparoscopies and a laparostomy and a mirina coil fitted but everything still just keeps getting stuck back down and its all over my bowel again. Ive had the zoladex for the past 8 months which has sorted the pain out but I don't want to leave it there all stuck especially as Im scared about it being on my bowel, so the surgeon and I agreed that I would need a total pelvic clearance.

I think if you can you definately need this time to get your head around things, I don't know your situation but even though I knew at one point this would have to happen I still find it really overwhelming sometimes.

Yes it is very hard to get my head around. I feel ok-ish then all of a sudden very teary and I can't believe I need such a drastic solution. But I definitely don't want this inside me.

When are you having your injection next week? Do you have a date for your surgery in October?

I do the same, i’ll be ok then something will set me off & i get upset. Glad im working at home at the mo people would think ive gone mad haha!

Im having my injection Monday so i’ll find out what the real side effects are then without the HRT. Then i have my op booked for 12th October. Do you have yours booked in? Are you with a BSGE centre?

I don't know how to just continue posting without replying to someone specific in the thread. My Zoladex story continues, day 8 post first injection today and I am having a period, no side effects yet except for extreme moodiness (but this is probably PMS). I must still have estrogen in my system. I am resigned to the side effects starting though...

I don't know how this site functions, but despite me posting on the thread yesterday I don't know if it pops up on anyone's daily digest as it is not a new thread.

I’ve just come off six months of Zolidex (my second time round) due to stage 4 endometriosis, it has taken the pain away but had some weight gain and hot sweats, and pins and needles! Lots of exercise is needed for mind and body! I was determined not to take HRT. Good luck, and hang in there!
