Hi there no suger coating it it's not a great experience a bowel prep ,I've had to do a few now ! But a few tips:

Just remember to drink plenty of fluids through out the day ,squash and water ,when you feel hungry have a good drink this will fill you up for a while.

Your bottom may become quite sore because you are expelling liquid don't worry it's not like having a tummy bug where you feel poorly ,try some Vaseline around your bottom this really does help. And use baby wipes to wipe.don't be too far from a loo the urge to go is quite quick so you will at home for the day!!

Hope all goes well with surgery and you have a speedy recovery

Take care

Hi Atutu,

Sorry to hear things so complex with your surgery - but good news is you know what's to be done and it's all going ahead :)

The bowel prep stuff is unpleasant as mablesky said. I used sudacreme instead of Vaseline - but anything that lubricates and protects is good :) ...my tip would be to put a good layer on before you start "going" .....and after each time you "go". If you haven't got a downstairs loo I'd get cosy in bed and have a book or if you have a tv then put that on to help distract you from it all. The first time I used picolax I drank orange - BIG MISTAKE! - something about the acid in it I suppose made it hurt like hell coming out the other end as liquid. Stick to water or very weak squash. Things get very sensitive down there once you start going.

Good luck with everything. Let us know how you are after your op. Hoping for a speedy recovery for you. Big hugs. Xxx

Picolax is absolutely fine, no pain or sickness with it. I agree with the other ladies, use sudocrem and drink lots - fizzy drinks can give you gas so don't go too crazy with them. Drinking with a straw helps too. Good luck!

Thanks ladies am going to have loads of fluids and get some cream.Ild let you all know how am getting along if anxiety doesn't kill me first!.x.

Right them two packs of picolax made me go 15 times combined.I was so sore, struggling and weak then we get to hospital and my 7am had been moved indefinitely but the nurses didn't let me drink any water...

Finally done at 5pm and came out from recovery 11am,my consultant was failing to look brave....He couldn't control bleeding so had to close me up...

Roll back three weeks, ild be back for stage two in April and have three small wounds on my tummy that have healed nicely already with no infections.

Thank you girls that replied to my messages.
