Did it take everyone to go back to work after a lap?
How long...: Did it take everyone to go... - Endometriosis UK
How long...
I had three weeks then tried going back and went off work again due to other endo related stuff. I'm a teacher
Everyone's different. Only go back when your truly well enough - don't jeopardise your health.
Hi Bernie, I'm 26 & I had 2 and a half weeks off work, I'm a vet nurse so lots of bending, lifting etc. and I couldn't of gone back any sooner than this. The first week after the lap I spent mainly lieing on the sofa, as even sitting up for too long would start to ache. Everyone's different though! Hope all goes well for u xxx
I've just had a lap on Thursday and I don't think 2 weeks is long enough for me. I am listening to my body and doing what's best for me.
I have my lap next week. The Dr told me I will need a minimum of one week off. May need longer if she treats any endo whilst she is in there. Don't rush back to work. Good luck xx
It really depends on how much they do when they go in. If it's just investigative and they are mainly looking then you won't need too long to recover. However if they go in and remove some endo or even anything else then you will need longer. I've had 4 laps in past 3 years - was back to work after 5 days with first one but with the others I've needed a week or two off.
I was originally signed off for a week. Because of what they told me (both tubes blocked and ivf only way to conceive) the emotional side has been quite tough so I was signed off for another week.
After a week, my wound then got infected so was on antibiotics and it was so much more painful.
Just see how you get on. You may be fine. Good luck x
for both my laps i had 3 days off then returned to work. I work in the medical field.
I went back to work around 12 days after my op. Im a childminder so it wasn't too strenuous, but its just so hard to say as everyone is different. I would definitely say not that soon though - especially if your standing for long periods of time!
Emma Xx
Is it possible to avoid the bending and lifting?
I work at sainsbury's and went back a week after my op. it was tiring but I made sure my managers and colleagues knew and avoided any lifting or bending or being on my feet too long and that was okay.
I have a laparoscopy booked for a monday and will hopefully be back at work on the saturday...
I really suffer with the aneasthetics though so I get quite poorly afterwards.
Good luck!
