Does anyone know if it's possible to ovulate if taking Provera continuously? [Thinking mainly about pregnancy possibilities]
Seems unlikely from what I have read, but if anyone has any insights I'd be interested to hear them!
Thanks

Hi,
Provera inhibits oestrogen, which in turn is part of the process leading to ovulation, but it is possible to become pregnant whilst on provera, have a look here at the NHS page on the medicine:

Have you started the Provera yet? I have been prescribed it to start next month and am very wary about it sending me into hairy, fat, mood swings. I also have a serious depressive bout in the past which suggests it may not be suitable.
Hi mind storm, I won't lie, the side effects weren't great and had several occasions when I wanted to come off them but everyone is different. I too, have a history of depression and anxiety and provera made me highly irritable. More so than normal, no one was safe from getting their head bitten off! I didn't put any weight on and didn't grow a hairy chest(!) but I did feel nauseous and cold. Sounds awful but it was worth it to have 6 months of no endo pain or periods, l was also well for the first few months following the treatment and became pregnant in November. Unfortunately l had a missed miscarriage in February and it's only now that my periods and everything that goes with them are back in full force that I almost miss the provera! I don't know your circumstances and why they have prescribed it to you but it did what l needed it for so ensure you discuss all your thoughts with your consultant first. Good luck x
Following my lap I was put on provera for 6 months to stop my periods with the intention of trying to start a family after the course. We were told to use condoms for the duration of the course as although it is unlikely you will become pregnant whilst on them, provera can cause birth defects so it is not recommended that you try whilst taking it. If you have not started them yet, make sure you discuss fully your thoughts with your consultant. Good luck x
Ok thanks all! Been on 10 mg 3 times a day for a month now. It's been so amazing for my endo I really recommend it but side effects difficult. Yes irritable, nauseous, hot flushes etc but it's the inability to sleep that's crippling me - hence experimenting with going down to 20 mg. Hope that will still keep periods at bay, although still not helping side effects. Maybe I could manage on 10mg? Can't wait 3 months for a hospital appoinent to ask so... Was really hoping I cld accidentally get pregnant on provera as I'm petrified of coming off pills and having a period again so I can ovulate. I guess there is no way round this. Although I did think of trying natural ivf perhaps, to reduce the amount of periods I may need to have before / if I get pregnant. Complicated eh. Thanks all for your responses Don't let me put you off Provera. Def worth a try.
