Endometrial ablation

Has anyone had an endometrial ablation? I am having the procedure next week and am hoping for a quick recovery as it's not as involved as a lap. It would be great to know how quickly others recovered. Thanks.

I got offered this to have done I an outpatient appointment for was to scared to do it without being put to sleep, I'm pleased I didn't as the GP letter that the consultant sent stated that she didn't think it would work for me, so why offer it!!! Needless to say I'm waiting to see another consultant - hope everything goes well x

Thanks. I didn't think it was done without general anaesthetic. My consultant didn't suggest any other way. I hope things work out for you too.

Hi

I had one a couple of years ago!

I was in and out in one day but in bed with the side effects of the General anaesthetic & cramps for about 2 days.

I would say it took me at least 2 wks to feel myself again & only 3 before I had my 1st menstural period, they were lighter but I was hoping they would stop like most other women talk about.

Oh forgot to mention don't be worried about the smell of burning or a watery period this goes after a week or so.

Take care 😀

Had mine a year and a half ago, worked brilliant I have not had a period since. I had heavy blood loss before, so nothing now. I had it along with lap.

I would love this procedure but my specialist thinks I'm too young :(

Would love to hear how you get on. Good luck x

Hi

Hope you are well. How did you get on with the ablation? Can I ask how old you are? x

Hi dabba76

Thanks for asking. I recovered quite quickly from the procedure which was last tues. Unfortunately though it was not successful. Apparently my uterus is too enlarged and bulky so the device wouldn't work properly to emit the radio waves. Very disappointing as I was so hoping for some relief from the bleeding.

My next step will have to be a hysterectomy. I am almost 50 (!!) so I guess it makes sense now. The consultant was not keen for me to do it earlier as he felt I could spend too many years on HRT.

I assume you're aware that ablation usually leaves you infertile so I think they are wary of offering it to younger women even if you say you don't want any/any more children!

Hope you're able to make good choices for you.

Take care :)

Hi

I'm pleased you had a quick recovery. I'm sorry the procedure didn't work for you.

I've never wanted children and my partner has had a vasectomy so it's really not an option.

I'm going to fight for it, I will go private if need be.

Good luck for the future x

I’ve had one. Was cramping for around 4 days but nothing like the recovery for a lap. Changed my life and lessened my horrific bleeding. Good luck 😉
