Did he say why? You need to have a good talk with him, and you do have a voice in this. SET (single embryo transfer) is now recommended in younger women because they are trying to reduce multiple births, but it's not a hard and fast rule. However, if you are over 37 then it would be worth thinking about having two put back, although there is a risk of multiples (I know, I've been there and have twins, but started out with quads!) Don't forget you can have any good embies frozen and they are getting good pregnancy rates with FET now, especially if you can get them to blastocyst stage. I would recommend signing up to Fertility Friends and talking it through over there. It's an incredibly supportive community with a huge communal knowledge.

It depends on the clinic they will advise you what number they think is best. I am under 37 but I had two eggs transferred back in as I had a three day transfer. However if they had done a five day transfer they would only have put one back on their recommendation. At the end of the day I think it's up to you, you would just have to sign a disclaimer. Remember though that these clinics are really experienced so I would tend to follow what they recommend. Good luck

Hello, The guidelines are for women under 35, to only have one embryo as Julianne stated due to the risk of multiple births. Women over 35 are offered two. I was over 35 and had ICSI, for my third attempt I had two frozen blastocysts in the freezer. Because I had a blastocyst I was advised that the chance of it working for went from 28% to 50% so I was advised at 38 to only have one blastocyst put back in as he said if a blastocyst attaches, then both would attach. Therefore I was just to have one. I took his advice, although I was scared, and I now have a beautiful baby girl who turned one yesterday. I am so pleased I took his advice and I now realise it was the right thing to do. But at the time I was struggling to see his point of view.

xx

The SET is only a recommendation for ladies under 35 but not a rule. I am 30 this month and yesterday I had 2 day 3 embryos transferred. We went through the NHS and the clinic actually recommended two because they are day 3 and I guess because of my Endometriosis? The Drs and Embryologist thought this would give me the best chance of getting pregnant. I think given that you are going private you should tell them that you would like to go with 2 embryos! Of course it depends how many eggs they collect and how many fertilise. In my case they only collected 5 eggs and 2 got fertilised per ICSI. Those two got transferred. Cause if you only have 2 in the end then you might not want to risk the freezing and thawing process. I wish you lots of good luck for your IVF :-)

Oh wow good luck to you will be thinking of you. Yes hoping for the blastocyst stage and still hoping for two embryo transfer. If I get two babies out of this then I see it as blessing!! Will be thinking of you on the long two week wait!! X x
