Hi Elsie...

For me personally they are all different pains!! At least having a laparoscopy you have had the chance unlike many other sufferers to get a diagnosis!! Majority of endometriosis suffers have different symptoms more and less. From all surgical points of view.... It takes time to recover some more than others. It took me a full week to recover plus I got an infection. Still sore for couple weeks slightly after.... But pleased on the results. On the plus side surgical pain goes away... Where endo pain doesn't until you have it under control!!!!

The part about not finding anything is scarey but at least you'll know if it's endometriosis or not or something else!!!

Sorry if i sound blunt.... But the truth is better!

Ana :) x

Endo.

The surgery pain is unpleasant and depending upon what work is done can be severe (requiring morphine to relieve it), but it is surgical pain... Mentally I can tell the difference and I know it's temporary. It is manageable provided you rest properly and gradually increase activity once past the initial healing stage.

The endo pain is agonising and so hard to get relief from. It is chronic so there's this endless, unrelenting element to it. Mentally that is very stressful and wearing. Being that it is invisible to others, it is hard for others to be empathetic, whereas after surgery people are more likely to make allowances for you because they know you've had an operation.

With regards to them not finding anything, while that is hard to take when you are suffering, I'd rather know what it isn't so that I can move forward in finding out what it is. If a patient is mistakenly told they have endo and treated for it, and then are later told they actually had something else wrong (that was treatable)... They'd be pretty annoyed... Just like some of us are told the endo pain is normal or IBS or whatever, when it is actually endometriosis that could be treated and managed - it's frustrating to realise you've suffered for years and been fobbed off.
