I have another question which I am totally unsure about.. Can I have a period a week before my surgery?

I haven't had a period since the start of December and I was hoping to have one next week as IV been getting period pains for about a week now and my boobs are very sore, however my surgery is the week after so was wondering will it cause obstruction if I had my period the week before or not? Iv heard that not having a period for a long while and having surgery then can cause obstruction too. What shall I do?
