How can I stop my period

I’m on week three of my period!!!

Last August I decided to stop getting the depo-provera shot as I’m now in a good spot for my life to start settling down and will want kids within the next two years! I was on the depo for 9 years so didn’t have to worry about a period through those years. The last 10 months have been stressful with periods coming and going as they please! This times it’s not hanging around for 5-7 days instead it’s stayed for three weeks and still counting! I’ve been to the gp but have not found them helpful! Is there anyway to stop this without going back on contraception? 😭😭

Go to GP and ask for norethisterone. I used to flood awfully on my periods and they’d go on for weeks- I couldn’t leave the house. They first prescribed me tranexamic acid but beware- this didn’t stop the bleed but just clotted it so I passed huge dry clots of solid blood instead. The norethisterone successfully stopped the bleed. Good luck xx

Some of the medications mentioned shouldn't be taken when pregnant/tying to conceive so make sure you let your doctor know you are trying, if applicable, when discussing medications.

I take a combination of Mefenamic Acid and Tranexamic Acid for bleeding but have also been prescribed Norethisterone on top (but not for bleeding). Despite my husband having a vasectomy gynaecologist still insisted on a pregnancy test before they prescribed it to me.

I completely sympathise with your deliemma as prior to getting a handle on my bleeding with meds I was bleeding more than I wasn't. Although a pain, it isn't the bleeding alone that is an issue, but all the side effects that go with it, especially long term. If you get no joy from your own doctor, ask for a second opinion. Good luck with finding a solution that works for you.

Hey, completely empathise with you! As the ladies above have said; Tranexamic Acid & Mefenanic Acid. I was on both of these and they worked well for bleeding & pain! My period was always gone a few days after taking the Tranexamic Acid, and I always had a very heavy flow, so they worked great for me. Definitely ask your GP!

Truthfully... I don’t recommend it.

No matter what you take as soon as you stop taking it, it’s like armageddon. I’ve not had a good experience with any tablets that are meant to stop the bleeding and I’ve lost count of the amount of clothes I’ve had to throw away because the bleeding after you stop taking it becomes excessive.

Believe me, I know how horrible it is to just be bleeding continuously (I am also on week three) but I think you just have to ride it out sometimes.

Hope it stops soon for you! Xx

If you don't want to take drugs, what you'll need is balance your hormones out naturally with a diet + supplements. Have you ever had your hormonal levels tested? It sounds like you might be having high estrogen given how heavy and long-lasting they are. Progesterone-only birth control would be ideal (e.g. dienogest or norethisterone) but if you don't want to take Primolut-N nor Visanne, dieting and lifestyle changes are your number one choice.
