How can I be in so much pain while taking Diclofenac, codeine, tramadol and using my hot water bottle?

Couldn't sleep due to the pain even after taking the above meds. So fed up at the moment. Hope all you lovely ladies are as well as you can be.

I really feel for you because last week i was taking codeine, tramadol, paracetamol and ibuprofen to no effect! Went to the docs and they've given me something called nefopam, apparently they're not gung ho about prescribing it because it's expensive, it's used primarily for people after surgery. It's not opioid based so you can take it with codeine so maybe give that a try but don't take it if you plan on doing much because personally it makes me feel really faint. Works for the pain though! Feel better soon x

Hi Naynay

Thanks for your reply. I will definitely see if I can get some nefopam. I'm glad you've been able to relieve your pain but a shame it makes you feel faint. Thanks again x

I couldn't sleep because my husband was snoring! I moved to my recliner, which was fairly comfortable. Luckily, the paracetomol, ibuprofen, codeine sulphate and pregablin (for a shoulder injury!) seem to be keeping the post-op pains at bay, as long as I don't move much!

Did you see the article in last week's Daily Mail on this very subject?

dailymail.co.uk/health/arti...

That may just be the answer you were looking for !!

It's a really interesting read. Take a copy of the article and speak to your GP about the possibility of getting tested to see if you are one of those for whom these types of drug just are not going to work. It would certainly be good to know for future reference.

If normally speaking the pain killers do work for you- then it may have been a case of taking them too late. These drugs need to be taken at the 1st hint of pain and kept topped up and not allowed to run out before topping up with another pain killer. It is always much harder to reduce the levels of pain felt if you have left the pain to get too strong before trying to stop it, or you have let one dose wear off before starting the next dose.

If you are on the verge of exceeding a maximum daily dose of one drug - take an alternative type of pain killer to tied you over till you can get back on the ones that work bext for you.

The key is to catch the pain early and don't give it a chance to build up as the dose wears off.

Thanks ladies.

I have just read the link, I did find it very interesting thanks Impatient.

Because my periods are really erratic I've been taking the meds regularly. My period this time was heavy and I don't know if it makes any difference pain wise regarding the flow of blood you lose. Thankfully today is a better day as I can actually almost stand up straight. Last night was awful as the pain crept up another level. I couldn't get up this morning to attend a hospital appointment with my hubby he went alone. As the day has gone on the pain has subsided some what but still bad. As my pre assessment is Thursday (16th) I may bring it up with them. I just feel at a loss sometimes, which makes me feel guilty cos of hubby going through his chemotherapy and I feel I'm not giving him the care and support he deserves cos of the terrible pain I'm in most of the time. We moved in with my parents at the beginning of Dec so they could help me and John out. This came at the cost of having to rehome my babies, Bella our dog and Tilly and Puck our cats as my parents live in a flat and aren't allowed pets.

God I'm so sorry for this long post I guess I needed to vent.

Thanks once again for reading and replying and I hope your all as well as possible.

xx
