Ckd 3 diagnosis

I have recently been diagnosed with stage 3 ckd.

I’m devastated to say the least. I am 52 years old.

I have hypertension and have had to use NSAIDS for years for pain. I can no longer use them. My gp thinks this may have cause it.

I have tried Tylenol and it seems to make me bleed also. I initially had a tight sensation in my back, almost like a swelling or spasm. Ultrasound found no stones or abnormalities.

Since I have been on new bp meds I have had less of that but I do have lower back pain and either what could be defined as fog brain or dizziness.

My gfr is 53. Creatine is 1.34.Bun was 16.

No potassium issues.

Prior to this lasted test I did a 24 hour urine test which said that I have all normal labs except my protein was 450. Way to high.

Can anyone tell me if they have had success with the ace inhibitors controlling the protein? Most people say they don’t have pain at this stage. I wonder if it could be something else.

I see a nephrologist in 3 weeks.Mr Kidney do you have any advice that you can give me?

I am

Following a low protein, low sodium diet.

Has anyone had the same issues as I?

Hello Margie,

Welcome!

Yes Blood pressure medications such as ace inhibitors and ARBs are both known to help reduce proteinuria and are the standard treatment for it.

At EGFR of 53 you have every chance to preserve and to improve with appropriate diet and excercise. So do not stress, it does not help.

Hope you can find more about the cause of your pain and are able to address it. Have you tried a heat pad or hot water bottle or even a tub bath to relax and to relieve pain? Of course checking with a physician will be good before you do anything. Can your GP guide you in this regard while you wait to meet the nephrologist?

Hope you also hear from others who are more knowledgeable than I on this excellent forum.

My very best wishes!

Thank you so much.

I will try the heat pad.
