Stage 2 CKD

Hello, I was told I have Stage 2 CKD which was a surprise. I have been known all my life for drinking lots of water. 8 glasses a day at least and I have never drunk tea, coffee, alcohol or cola. I didn't even like cola as a child. Therefore as I cannot pinpoint the cause, I am not sure what to do to prevent it going to stage 3.

I have never been into red meat but I have introduced it into my diet recently (after the ckd was flagged) because the doctors said I was anaemic and I have hypothyroidism (now on levothyroxine) and my anaemia levels have improved. I also took anaemia supplements.

My only vice for the past 25 years is hot chocolate, the low calorie stuff called Cadburys Highlights. I have a few mugs a day. Could that be the problem? If it is, I am not sure what to replace it with because that is my only treat. I don't even eat chocolate or cakes etc.

I would be grateful for your advice please. Thank you.

There appears to be an established link between hypothyroidism and renal failure:

I too have always drank a lot of water,no soda etc… don’t eat red meat and I have hypothyroidism. I also have CKD. It may not be due to food or dehydration. It could very well be genetic, high blood pressure, certain medications, NSAIDs or a medication condition. I would suggest you see a nephrologist. In addition, I’m not sure if obtaining iron from red meat is good for your situation.
