A couple of years ago the BBC did a prog with the excellent Angela Rippon. Called "How to stay young". I took part in programme & had some decent results. BMI 273, BMR 1432 . After being T1 since 1966, I was quite pleased.

How To Stay Young
I saw the same programme and follow-up. I developed my own regime as a (now) 35 year T2 as I vowed to be fit when diagnosed in the military. I limited myself to a 1,000 kcal per day menu with a smoothie for both breakfast and dinner and lunch was free choices. I slowly got down from 90 to 83kg and my Insulin usage was down to one or two units a day. I nearly had my diabetes in remission after working so hard and with a routine blood test, was found to have blood and bone marrow cancer.
I am 4 months away from 70 and there is no sense in trying to get there again, but there is the triumph of knowing I could have done it. I am now 7 months into my stem cell transplant and my weight remains within 1kg steady at 88 with two very heavy workouts each day.
My moment had passed but I remain almost as fit as I was in the military 28 years ago and stick to a healthy eating regime. I admire your taking part in the programme and your results. Tests have indicated I have a 59 year old body which is satisfying to me. I haven't given up, but accept that reality of losing a year in steroids and chemo therapy can set you back in your goals, but I am very happy to be alive. It is quite an achievement for me and I remain humbled and committed to helping others.
Good Stuff Ifn 1. When I did the prog Angela saw me at dinner time pushing the button on my insulin pump. She asked me what it was & she is a very nice person. I have been T1 since being 3 & I wanted to show any kids out there that it is possible to Live Life. One of my good mates is now off his T2 meds through Hard work like you & he was in the forses too. I know whats in your head ! A great storey ! Ifn 1
