Been in coma 2x before i upgraded to the Medtronic Insulin pump. The sensor tests my bg every 5 mins. Has to be programmed but when bg goes below 6.0 then alarm goes off and insulin input is suspended. Alarm does not stop until i press ok. The same when bg levels go too high it sends an elert then i can manually insert insulin via the pump. I can now sleep with ease especially after i lost my husband. I would be lost without this device. Charging and inserting the sensor each week is a slight irritation as it takes over an hour before calibration can take place but its worth it in the end. Ive been checked out by my specialist and non of my organs have been effected from being a Type 1 for 15 years. Eyes, kidneys, circulation, blood pressure all good. He said i wont die from diabetes. The secret. Never let yr bg stay high. Keep it down to around 6.0 by testing yourself 4 hourly. But the Pump is the best device to have. My medical aid covered the whole devuce at around R52 000. But its a replacement pancreas and it will save a diabetics life.
