Diabetes is not just an issue of blood sugar , it is a complex metabolic disorder causing a host of complications. If we understand it well, we can have a better control and even we may be able to reverse it if we treat it holistically with change in various aspects of our life style...

Insulin Resistance is the villain in Diabetes in most cases and can get associated with all types of Diabetes such as Type1/ Type1.5/ Type2 / Gestational..

The Insulin Resistance can cause a host of Health issues as shown in a Screen shot (Screen shot taken from the Ny times Best Seller Book "Mastering Diabetes" by Cyrus Khambatta , MD, Ph.D in Nutrition Bio Chemistry and Robby Barabaro... . both are living with Type1 since last 35 years)

We consume many types of Diet ....LCHF/ Keto, Vegetarian, non- Vegetarian , Vegan, Meditarranean and many other diets based upon recommendation from local Diet Guru's with all kind of permutations and combinations ..... resorting to all kinds of medications.... all targeted to reduce blood sugar .....and we tend to control our blood sugar at any cost, but we tend to ignore all other Health parameters, thinking that diabetes is all about controlling blood sugar level .... Needless to say that this kind of approach may lead to complications at a later date ....

According to the author of the book and so also it is a concensus opinion among the medical professionals and all nutritional experts that today's allopathy medicines do reduce the blood sugar, but donot reverse the underlying conditions known as insulin Resistance. Sciene is yet to discover a medicine which can reverse insulin Resistance...

Have we ever checked our Insulin Resistance status- the main culprit ???? Insulin Resistance being both the cause and effect of Diabetes !

If the Insulin Resistance remains dormant in us...we are not completely healed.... We are in a vicious circle even though our blood sugar is under control ....

How do you check your insulin Resistance status ? There are 7 parameters which would indicate if we are free from insulin Resistance !

(1) Your BP remains 120/80 max without BP medication

(2) Ideal body weight : Are you able to maintain your ideal body weight ? Do you struggle to maintain your ideal body weight. ....Are you obese or underweight ? According to the Author of the book , Your ideal body weight should be :

115 pounds + 5h for men & 105 pounds +4h for women where 115 & 105 are weight in pounds for a 5 ft height and h is no of inch above 5 ft...

e.g. for a 5ft 2 inch height man ...the ideal weight is 115 + (5x2) =125 pounds

(1kg=2.205 pounds)

(3)Lipids : There is a lot of debate on cholesterol. Just because my lipid parameters are out of range due to my own improper eating habits/ life style , I should not be asking the entire medical system of the whole world to change the reference range to suit my lipid parameters!😀

The fact remains is that any hospitals or pathological clinic you visit for your blood tests across the world today, the reference range for lipids remains the same since decades which is based upon evidence based science.....goes without saying that for a normal healthy non-diabetic person, the lipids profile parameters normally lies within the reference range as mentioned below. The lipid parameters don't get distorted if such a healthy person is on a balanced diet.

Therefore, based on his own research work on Insulin Resistance , the author of the book recommends that ideally and without any cholesterol lowering medication :

#Your total cholesterol should be less than 150 mg/dl

# LDL less than 100

# Triglyceride less than 150

# HDL 40 minimum for Men & 50 minimum for women.

If you check your medical history record your lipid profile before your Type 2 diagnosis, it was perhaps absolutely fine within the above range!

As per the author, lipids can be corrected by life style changes and You don't need a Statin to correct your cholesterol unless one has past history of CAD/ hospitalization and he is strongly recommended by his Cardiologist...so I don't have any doubt on the integrity of the Author or any linkage with any pharma Companies or any medical fraternity.....

(4) Hba1c less than 5.7

(5) Fasting Glucose 80-100 mg/dl.

(6) hsCRP should be less than 1mg/L

hsCRP would indicate inflammation in the body ... high hsCRP Carries CV risk...it could also affect the beta cells of pancreas....

Low hsCRP would indicate that whatever diet and life style changes you have made, your body is readily accepting the changes ...

For example, I took a particular diet forcefully to reduce blood sugar , my hsCRP went up very high... more than 3... but when I reversed my Diet....my hsCRP became normal.. I understood how a diet can play a vital role in your Health.

When your hsCRP is high , at times you may have a disturbed sleep quite often......you may not able to get your 7-8 hours sound sleep- needless to say that 7-8 hours sound sleep daily is a must for your overall well being!

At times if you have some infection in the body , the hsCRP could also go high...so rule out that...

(7) Hypoglycemia & Blood sugar fluctuations : whether one is type 1 or type 2, if there is frequent Hypo's i.e if the blood sugar goes too low frequently and or your blood sugar level keeps fluctuating a lot and you keep adjusting your insulin or medication every now and then , it may indicate that you still continue have Insulin Resistance....irrespective of your HBA1c record ...

In spite of good blood sugar control, if you continue to have Some or All of the above Health parameters out of reference range , you need to work on you to get back these parameters to remain healthy which is possible if you correct all aspects of your life style conditions !

Stay Safe , Stay Healthy ...🙏

Very interesting. I am a large frame person, all my life, how do I calculate my ideal weight?

For a given height a person can be low or medium or large frame therefore the weight can vary!
