An informative article published today in difference between type1 and type 2 Diabetes.
But what the article does not discuss is the fact that Type 2's at some point of time may have to take insulin since the beta cells stop producing insulin.....
However, this can be avoided or prevented if the person remain active life style and reduce insulin resistance by a proper diet, physical exercise and keeps his blood sugar always under control...
Low carb is good for diabetes...Avoid sugar, refined carbs, maida, sweets , starchy vegetables like potatoes, white rice..... Some Diabetes especially thin type 2's need to have some measured quantity of complex carbs from whole grains like oats and pulses....
........Overall carb quantity may need to be fixed by individuals depending upon his tolerance level and blood sugar response to low carb diet...
After having said that yes, Some Obese Type-2 with high insulin level may get immensely benefitted with a strict low carb diet ... Even medication can be minimised with this approach...
But if a person is thin built body type 2 low BMI and if his circulating blood insulin levels are extremely low....Low carb in measured quantities would not help... high fat and protein also requires insulin for its metabolism ....
.........therefore what is of primary Importance for him is he should know if he belongs to this catagory of people by suitable blood tests , then he should be taking an insulin secretagogues after consultation with his doctor....
Then the secondary importance is Carbs.... Carbs essential for him...though refined carbs / simple sugars are avoided all together to prevent a spike ... but he needs to take some measured quantity of complex carbs from vegetables , pulses, oats.. ..as he also needs to ensure that he should put on some weight....to bring his BMI to a more healthy level.....
The mortality rate of thin built diabetes is higher than obese type diabetes...because they (Thin type 2) are not aware of their insulin deficient status and they practice Low carb diet ...they never put on weight.... They go thinner and thinner day by day....creating complications for their health...
What all we are saying is whether people are comfortable with Saturated fat or MUFA , Veg or a Non-veg or a vegan, and the quantity of Carbs they are comfortable with , let us leave it to them ..after all they have Glucometer at home to know what increases and what decreases their blood sugar, their overall well being...
Once upon a time I was on saturated fat ... and it was a disaster.....I gave up all together. . And I found all round improvement in my health ..
There may be somebody who may be more comfortable with Saturated fat ....his body accepts it..... It is ok...
Samething true with quantity of carbs also.....
So there can not be one fit for all.....obese and thin type 2 would respond differently... You may be knowing how your body react to type of fats and Carbs , but it may not be correct to think that all others irrespective of body structure and health conditions will respond in a similar fashion like yours ...
If there were one fit diet and solution for all type of diabetes, there would not have been any diabetes in the world ......
Hope you are aware that insulin resistance can be measured very well.....from fasting blood glucose...and fasting insulin.....there is another method which doctors measure insulin resistance in a lab ....methods are plenty...
So if one is able to control his blood sugar, keep his insulin resistance under control by physical exercise and diet- whatever he is comfortable with ...
.......He need not worry whether he does it with meat ,egg, dairy or a complete vegan diet with a lot of fiber , nuts ,seeds , whole Legumes, vegetables and fruits...
In fact what I observed my body refuse to eat any food out of animals...not even eggs and dairy....
I found 10 fold improvement in my overall health parameters with 100% plant food....
There may be some one whose body is healthy with 100% animal fat, dairy, eggs....
It is ok ... Let us respect each other's food Habbits....
I have seen dozens of meat eaters who have B12 deficiency 😀 and there are another dozens of vegan who have never taken meat... yet their B12 level is always normal...this is because our gut bacteria Microbiome could also prepare B12...
Yes, if a person takes Metformin daily, then he is likely to have vitamin B12 deficiency whether or not he eats Veg or Non veg......it is proven science ... Fortunately B12 deficiency can be corrected by supplements..
What I meant is both vegan and meat eaters have equal probability of vitamin B12 deficiency and fortunately there is a proven low cost supplement called Methylcobalamine water soluble Vitamin which can easily correct the deficiency. 🙂
