LCHF...Answered me but it ALSO brought new QUESTIONS!

Four years ago in my mid 60 s I took interest in LCHF and was strictly following the guide lines and became near normal in all aspects. My consultant endocrinologist was highly pleased with the outcome!

This is only one side of the story!

Since of late I became loosing strength in my muscles…... Long distance walks, cycling or any activities requiring the support of our muscles became near impossible. And … I was losing interests in diets of any kind.

When I referred the loss of appetites to the Forum it was suggested for me to take one or two pieces of cakes ….and I took. ..............These cake pieces, one may not believe’ turned out to be the ‘miracle medicine’ and I was feeling as if I had eaten after weeks of fasting!

I added carbs little by little …’exceeding the 20% I was maintaining strictly for over 3 years’ and now I feel I am getting very much normal at my 70 s.

My conclusion is that Fat will not replace Carbs as the source of energy for our bodies accustomed to Carbs from the days of infancy.

Going for high Carbs is wrong and going for high Fat is also wrong…we have to find somewhere in between varying with individual to individual!

It is good that you realised that balanced diet is best for health

I agree with you totally.Firstly, suppose you start LCHF in your fifties, just imagine eating all that fat for next 25 years or so.Next,I learnt that epilepsy patients are treated ,as an SOP, by manipulating their gut biome by feeding them with high fat diet,lt is ncative that LCHF does affect your gut biome that may impact brain functioning.I am a layman and have concerns because of that reason.I believe in moderation in eating and LCHF does not fall in that category. But then,it is individual's choce.

We have been told of ‘Balance diet’ from very early days of our life when we heard nothing about Type 1 or Type 2! …….The ‘Insulin deficiency’ surfaced very lately though it came as a tsunami from all over the world.

Our beginning to consume ‘poisonous’ foods grown with artificial fertilizers and a variety of chemicals- pesticides, weedicides and the whole range of ‘cides’ would have contributed to the disablement of our organs which our parents kept very fit by consuming what we now called organic foods.

Our confrontation with the problems linked to 'Insulin' is a reality and the LCHF, an initial step, is a very effective step in the right direction.

What is required is to improve it with the new information now revealed and proceed with amendments instead of simply concluding ‘Balance diet” is the answer!

Fact is,diabetes was prevalent in olden days also, but the root cause of it's occurance was not adequately understood.People used to die due to gangrene of the toes because they used to get frequently injured due to lack of footwear, rough terrain etc.I read somewhere that Sushrutha, a great physician of ancient India prescribed digging a well or breaking stones as a remedy for the diabetics, implying that physical activity is essential to manage diabetes. As you rightly put it,diabetes is now rampant due to changes in life styles, eating habits and so on.

you are right.Try no sugar, moderate complex carbs as in whole cereals , moderate protein and minimal unsaturated fat along with a pure vegetarian diet

exactly my thoughts. we need some carbs. I think one can include carbohydrate foods which is nutrient and mineral dense. LCHF though good option is an escape way. It does not cure insulin resistance or insulin deficiency.

I did a post from a doctor that explains on the carb and how we eat them!

Yes we need carb.
