Hello friends,

My fasting sugar reading is around

115 and 2 hours after food is 170. I am not taking any medicine yet. I have hypertension also but well under control with medicine. Last August I had to install 2 stents in my heart artery which was blocked 99%. I am taking blood thinners with bp medicine . Please suggest if I should start taking any medicine for my diabetes situation or it can be controlled with diet change . Thanks 🙏

At this stage, it should be possible to reverse your T2D by making suitable dietary changes. Review your diet keeping in mind the following:

1. CARBOHYDRATE IMPACTS BLOOD SUGAR MAXIMUM FOLLOWED BY PROTEIN AND THE RISE IN BLOOD SUGAR DUE TO FAT IS MINIMAL, ALMOST NEGLIGIBLE.

2. PROTEIN AND FAT ARE ESSENTIAL BUILDING BLOCKS THAT MUST BE CONSUMED.

3. CARBOHYDRATE AS SUCH IS NOT ESSENTIAL, HOWEVER THEY SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN OUR DIET TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL VITAMINS AND MINERALS THAT OUR BODY NEEDS.

Considering the above, it makes sense for diabetics to follow a diet which is low in carb, moderate in protein and high in healthy fat.

Consider LCHF diet which has been very effective in blood sugar control.

You need to determine the right amount of carbohydrate that your body can metabolise keeping BS in acceptable range by monitoring your blood sugar for few weeks in the beginning.

Is LCHF diet okay for me considering I had installed 2 stents in my arteries? I hope it won’t be having any negative impact on my cholesterol.

I understand your concern. The best defence against fear is knowledge. I suggest you to do your own research including talking to a medical professional.

According to what I have learnt:

1. Total cholesterol alone is not a risk factor for heart problems.

2. Triglycerides and HDL are more important to assess risks of heart issues.

3. In general, there is improvement in lipid profile on LCHF/KETO DIET. in particular, it lowers triglycerides and raises HDL which offsets increase in total cholesterol, if any.

4, I have been follwing ketogenic diet and found the above are true as confirmed by my regular blood test results. My Doctor was not in favour of this diet, however, after the blood test results he seems to be happy. My blood sugar levels are in non diabetic range without any medications.

You have to find out what works fot you. If you decide to follow LCHF diet and need any assistance, I will be hapy to provide.

Could you please give me some idea on kito diet?

It is all about limiting carb intake so that body starts using fat( ketone body) as fuel rather than carbohydrate ( glucose). Ketogenic diet is an extreme form of LCHF where carb intake is limited to 20-30 gm per day. It is a very effective approach to lose weight particularly for those who are severely overweight or obese. One has to assess its suitability because it may not be appropriate for all. First step should be knowing one's conditions and the expectations from any diet. There are lot of information available on the net. If you search on google using 'A ketogenic diet for beginners' you will get lot of useful information. Hope this helps.

Hi,

First of all don't panic. I would suggest you to do a blood test called HB1AC - It gives you an average of your blood glucose levels for last 3-4 months. If that is above the desired range, then you need to start medicine for now.

If you already are diabetic(confirmed by the above test), try to do the following:

1. Get your 8 hours sleep

2. Practice meditation

Both of the above will lower your stress and hence cortisol levels, which is the primary reason, we have elevated blood sugar levels in the morning.

3. Start exercising every day - start with brisk walk in morning and evening.

4. Stop consuming high glycemic foods namely: sugar, potatoes, rice(with starch), refined carbs, refined oil etc.

5. Use extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil for cooking.

6. Try to have multi-vitamin, Vit C, B Vitamins, Omega-3(Fish oil) and magnesium as supplements( Do consult with doctor too).

7. Intermittent Fasting is the best way to maintain blood glucose levels, but don't try it unless you consult with a good doctor.

8. Include some lean protein in your diet like chicken breast, fish etc.

9. Eat good amount of veggies with each meal, specially cucumber which helps alkalise your body. The more alkaline your body is, more good you feel.

Best of luck!

Is egg white okay to take in breakfast?

Yes take egg whites but don't ditch yolk completely. Atleast have it in a ratio of 3:1 i.e., 3 white 1 with yolk. Couple every meal with green veggies n cucumber with lemon.

I found this site by accident!, a question on eggs.

You have had stent therefore there are a number of medication is am must for you. Take medication given by your specialist. there are side effects therefore watch out. Because you have had stent, looking at lipid numbers can help to control blood flow.

For type 2 HbA1C testing is the best way, watching out for hidden sugar, free sugar in food and drinks is very important. Have a look at your height to waist ration, get a length of string cut it to your height length, now fold it the middle, take it around your waist, there should be some left over!, if it cannot reach, controlling your food and drinks intake, regular exercise can help.

Another way is bring your Wight down is to starting eating your first meal at mid day and in the evening eat before 8 PM, no food after 8PM to mid day next. Very difficult.

At the top there is a scale for HbA1C , what % is your blood test number?

Eggs, scrambled in small quantity of butter or olive oil is good for you! Coconut oil, olive oil added to food is also good.
