Is Gymnema an alternative of Metformin?

Hi All,

I have been having Metformin 500 mg (once a day) for some months. After my recent HbA1c test (reading 6.3%) , i stopped Metformin and replaced it with Gymnema (2 to 3 g) once a day. The initial results were promising. My FBS ranged from 90 to 110 mg/dL for almost a month. But after a month, my FBS slowly started increasing beyond 110 mg/dL. When my FBS reached more than 125 mg/dL after a few days, i stopped having Gymnema and switched back to Metformin.

The learning is that Gymnema is not a straight forward alternative to Metformin. (Of course, we could try with more dosages of Gymnema, etc. )
