Welcome to the group, pkandasamy24. I guess what you mean is your Fasting blood sugar is 119 and PPBS is less than 140. And you have some concerns about the fasting number.

If your PPBS and HbA1c are within healthy range, there is not much to be concerned about. You should check your fasting number several days because sometimes it may be temporarily high but normally in a healthy range.

I understand you like eating rice and idli, try to avoid that in the breakfast or at least reduce the quantity. Add more protein/good fat in the breakfast. Eggs would be a good substitute if you can eat.

You have impaired fasting glucose ie., between 100 mg/dL to 125 mg/dL. More over you have high blood pressure which is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes.

Simple lifestyle measures have been shown to be effective in preventing or delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes. To help prevent type 2 diabetes and its complications, people should :--

* achieve and maintain healthy body weight;

* be physically active – at least 30 minutes of regular, moderate-intensity activity on most days. More activity is required for weight control;

* eat a healthy diet, avoiding sugar and saturated fats intake; and

* avoid tobacco use – smoking increases the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Rice is a staple food for south and eastern parts of India and is difficult to avoid.Rice is a rich source of easy carbohydrates and hence spikes blood sugar levels very quickly.If you are eating rice three times a day,it will not help in managing diabetes.We have to be aware of two concepts in this regard.First concept is called glycemic index.Depending on how quickly a food item spikes blood sugar it is given an index number.Sugar is given index number of 100 and white rice is 56.Pulses are given index of about 30.So,for a diabetic,it is advisable to avoid high glycemic foods like sugar and sweets,reduce consumption medium index foods like rice and wheat and eat more of low glycemic foods like pulses,dairy,sprouts,eggs etc.Search the net to know glycemic index of all the foods that we eat and make wiser choices.Regarding glycemic load,it is a question of limiting portion sizes.It means,even low glycemic foods will ultimately,even if delayed, will cause spike in sugar level if consumed in large quantities.For example,you can reduce the number idlis,increase chutney or sambar,or include an egg.To make up the overall nutritional requirements you can have a snack made of low glycemic foods say,two hours after breakfast.This kind of planned eating needs some effort,but it is worth it.

Being south Indians,it is difficult for us to switch over to low G I diet plan since our diet plan is predominantly rice based.After a lot of thinking,I have stopped eating idli,dosa etc which are rice based.Instead,I am eating steel cut oat meal and an egg for breakfast.I also eat moong dal dosa which has a relatively low G I.For lunch,I eat rice as little as possible but eat plenty of greens,vegetables and curds.Rice is medium GI food,so I feel it is OK if we control the quantity.Same for dinner also.For fruits,I prefer papaya,musk melon and apple.You can check their G I value.It is low.For snacks,I eat two or three digestive biscuits or fried channa or groundnuts in limited quantities. Please note,I am 79 without much physical activity and also I am on Insulin.My diet plan may not suit you totally,because you seem to be much younger.To conclude,understand thoroughly about G I values of various foods that we normally eat and more importantly,glycemic load and plan your diet accordingly.All the best.
