Hi guravaiah,

Thanks for the information. I read your last post and noted that your blood sugar levels are very high despite medication and insulin(?). how is your blood sugar now? Also, I note that you are severely underweight. At your age(30) and diabetic since the age of 22, I am a little bit concerned and would like to confirm that your diagnosis has been done correctly. have you been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes?

My suspicion based on your age, weight and not responding properly (blood sugar level not being controlled) with oral medications is that you may have severe insulin deficiency (LADA, also called Type 1.5 diabetes).

The diets which you have been following as per the last post are totally insufficient. I will suggest you a more healthy and satisfying diet in few minutes. Meanwhile, may I request you to answer/comment on the points I raised above.

Afternoon 1 ragi ball ( 150 gms) with vegetables and evening 1 cup tea and night 2 chaptis and 1 cup curd rice.

guravaiah,

It may be more than the diet. Please get examined for other conditions like LADA urgently. Your symptoms are very much like those of LADA.

guravaiah in reply toPraveen55

Ok sir . Thanks for your valuable time spending on me .

Praveen55 profile image
Praveen55Moderator in reply toguravaiah

Absolutely no problem.

Praveen55 profile image
Praveen55Moderator in reply toguravaiah

You need not take the A1c test every month. It is to be taken once every three months. Aic gives the average blood sugar of the previous three months.

OK, here is my simple lchf diet plan. It is non-vegetarian and to be eaten without any guilt.

It is called M.E.A.L

M > Meat > Chicken/Mutton/Fish(fatty ones like Salmon)

E > Eggs ( in whole, no white only).

A > Added Fat > Olive oil, Butter/Ghee, Coconut, Cheese, Full fat cream and yoghurt, Walnuts, Almond.

L > Low carbs Vegetables grown above ground e.g. Lettuce, Spinach, Cucumber, Green beans, Olives, Peppers, Cabbage, Cauliflowers, Broccoli, Okra(Bhindi), Bitter gourd( Karela), Avacado, tomatoes, Mushrooms and any locally grown vegetables (above ground only).

The typical one-day menu may look like this:

BREAKFAST:

2 or three eggs omelette and Cheese + Green veg salad ( select from L > above)

TEA/COFFEE without sugar, add double cream in place of milk.

LUNCH:

Chicken kabab along with mushrooms, green peppers and like.

Green veg salad

Tea/ coffee if required

DiNNER:

Salmon with gravy made with double cream and spices.

Side Vegetable of your choice

SWEET:

Desiccated Coconut cooked in whole milk until paste-like thick. No added sugar. Up to two tablespoons.

I do not take any grains. If you cannot live without chapati, you can add one or two medium size chapatis. Eat until stomach full without any guilt.

ENJOY LIFE AND FOOD. KEEP WORRIES AWAY.

guravaiah in reply toPraveen55

guravaiah ,

Please check with your doctor before you start/change your diet. Not everything is going to work the same way for everyone.

guravaiah profile image
guravaiah in reply toActivity2004

Ok sir

ramana42 profile image
ramana42Volunteer in reply toguravaiah

As per my experience,no doctor will give consent for such a diet change. They say no to even 15 gr of cheese or an egg a day.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply toramana42

It depends on how controlled the patient is with their medications and diabetes, ramana42 . I have asked my Endocrinologist about going on the LCHF/LCHP diets and he was okay with the high protein diet plan.

ramana42 profile image

I am not a believer in any speciality diets.I do have a traditional diet at home, which can and should be modified and adapted as situation demands.Understanding my own dietary requirements is fundamental and such understanding alone should guide me in my dietary habits.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply toramana42

That’s understandable. Everyone can do what is best for themselves, but also be careful at the same time, ramana42. No one is disagreeing about it.

I agreed your answer sir . Searching in internet and following diet causes some health problems additional to diabetes. But our forum mostly saying lchf diet controls the diabetes but lchf diet information is not available in the forum.

Guravaiah if it is helpful you can google my name and diabetic and i have outlined my diet for every meal with BS numbers etc for every day for first 30-40 days I transitioned to LCHF and then to Keto

Ok sir. Thank you.

VinayRaj profile image

So true, specially on medication, expert guidance and mentoring is required to transition into LCHF over a 6-10 week period as medicines etc can be adjusted accordingly, lifestyle changes as appropriate can be made too.

Sir I have one doubt that my father asked . If we take high fat in our diet that to three times a day we would not face any cholesterol and triglycerides levels variations ( spikes)

True about the disease. It is a metabolic disorder.About being above or below average as a human being,I do not believe in it.But yes, each human being is unique.

Thanks for bringing out this information, otherwise I would have kept wondering why they reacted the way they did.

Hi guravaiah,

It is sad that sometimes commercial interest becomes important. You should use your own discretion in consultation with your Doctor to follow a particular diet. Always assess the risk and reward involved.

What I have suggested is an example of how a low carbs diet looks like and what I have been using. You can always adjust it to your requirements. It is important to learn about these things because you have to, like rest of us, manage your conditions for a long time to come.

Thanks, and we wish you all the best.

Low carb diet has been there since early 1970's pioneered by Robert Atkins. Though he emphasized on high protein. Subsequently, several modifications were implemented by several researchers and today also there are several forms of low carb diets including LCHF as you rightly mentioned.

VinayRaj profile image
VinayRaj

Honestly I think there is scientific literature published as old as 1915 where Low carb was the preferred treatment for diabetics when Insulin was not available. Am not able to recall the study, but it is a scientific study published in a journal. So its as old if not older. Dr. Atkins used a version of it for weight loss in the 80s and 90s and am sure there are numerous other instances.

Praveen55 profile image
Praveen55Moderator in reply toVinayRaj

Must be. Because I also read some recipe book for diabetes where butter and other fatty foods were recommended. The book available online for free dates back to 1920 or so (don't remember the exact date).
