Today one of my friend went for checking fasting blood glucose at 0900AM in lab. She had her last meal in night at 1150PM.
The lab person told her to come back tomorrow . She was told that , For checking fasting blood sugar she should be at least 10 to 12 hrs in fasted state .And told her to eat her meal at regular time generally around 9 to 10 pm. And come by 8 in morning to check .
1.Then what about 8 hrs?..
2.What all things are need to be taken into consideration before going for checking blood glucose?
3. For accurate results what is the best time to check blood sugar.
Kindly Explain...
Thank you all.

For a fasting blood glucose test, you can’t eat or drink anything but water for eight hours before your test. Some laboratories insist 12 hour fasting to undergo blood glucose test.
yes. most of laboratories insist on 12 hours fasting since last night, to take sample on next day. more over though its 12 hours, it doesnt mean , say if you take dinner at 10Pm and go to sleep at say 11 PM, and if the blood is taken at 10 AM or later, (you should not take any thing but water, if you wish), it theoretically OK, as you completed 12 hours. But the catch is as you slept just immediately after 1 hour of eating, the digestion doesnt happen as it usually happen, so there could be some in accurate results. So, best thing to do is:
1. Eat the dinner, the night before at a time, and MUST give AT LEAST 3 hours, before going to bed. If not 4 to 5 hours.
2. drink luke warm water 45 mins after dinner. and also try to to drink at least 1 litre of water next day morning at least 1 hour before sample is taken.
