Impact of Paneer on fasting blood sugar(FBS)

Hi All,

I reintroduced few cubes (4 or 5) of paneer as part of dinner and could observe that my FBS increases the next day at least by around 10 points.

FBS without paneer as part of dinner the previous night: 86-92 mg/dL

FBS with paneer as part of dinner the previous night: 102-104 mg/dL

Both these readings are taken from glucometer. I wonder how few cubes of paneer increases by FBS by 10%. Please note that i had the same number of chapatis on both these occasions. Are there any scientific explanation for this FBS rise?

What is the equalling sugar content of carb and sugar in 4-5 cubes?

Your FBS increased by 10 points?

Is this good or bad for your health and any other health benefit is Pannier?

sandybrown , Carb content is very low in Paneer. Its a protein rich food.

If you observe the readings shared earlier, having Paneer the day before during dinner increases your FBS by 10% approx.

Paneer is good for health as it has lot of amino acids, etc. namaha used to be a fan of Paneer part of his LCHF diet.

Dear Barani

Paneer is no doubt a low GI food ..but one has to be careful...because apart from Protein, it is rich in saturated fat .

There could be two issues:

(1) As you know , 1gm fat gives you 9 calories where as carb/ protein gives 4 Calori... So more calori you took from paneer could result in a difference in fasting blood glucose...

(2) For some people even Saturated fats can create an issue...

So you need to find out which is suitable to you....

Perhaps your kind of body would be ok with peanuts, almonds, chia seeds pumpkin seeds, whole oats, Lentils.....varities of vegetables and low GI Fruits!

Paneer (cottage cheese) - A healthy Indian snack for diabetes. Turns out, cottage cheese, or paneer in Hindi, makes a great snack option for people with type 2 diabetes. The good thing is that cottage cheese is low in carbs but high in protein, which can help lower blood sugar.

Thanks gangadharan_nair sir. I have found that even though Paneer helps in lowering your BS, other parameters like hsCRP had a hit, if you have it more. I'm planning to avoid Paneer altogether.

In my opinion you reduce chapatis & hv paneer. It won’t increase blood sugar. Paneer contains fats & not carbs.

Aajkal , I tried having 2 small chapatis[emmer wheat] with and without Paneer. With Paneer, it pushes up my FBS around 102-104 mg/dL. Without Paneer, FBS stayed around late 80s upto 92 mg/dL. so, my observation is that you should avoid having Paneer for dinner.

Don't eat any dairy products.

Thanks for the information Sankanrbanerjee61 . If you avoid dairy products altogether, it results in Vitamin B12 deficiency.

Sankanrbanerjee61 ,

Most of the fruits have more carbs than milk or other dairy products which has direct impact on your HbA1c. To make it simple, i feel its better to have milk(prefer Organic A2 milk) that has less carbs and has Vit B12 as well.

My hba1c for the last three years in between 6.1 to 6.4 during the mango season I eat 1000 gms to 1500 gms mango everyday and I am a diabetic since 1999. After I followed dip diet my blood sugar levels become steady stage. From November 2016 to 2017 I reluctant to take insulin but after dip diet put off insulin and reduce dose tab by half of reclide xr 60 and telma 80 to telma 20 for high blood pressure. Kindly note man made isweet s harmful than natural sweet.

Thanks for sharing your experience Sankanrbanerjee61 . Do you eat a specific variety of Mango during the mango season?

I completely agree that man made sugar(white sugar) is harmful than the natural ones.
