Hi sarah123s,

I am not a doctor, I also take Glipizide.

Lower leg pain, numbness and feet being cold are signs of poor circulation which perhaps could be due to uncontrolled diabetes. You may like to get a medical opinion.

I personally take 300mg Alpha Lipoic Acid capsule ( recommended by Anup Singh, whose opinion I trust) in the morning and try and exercise the leg.

This condition is a wake up call. Wake Up !!

Regards.

Thank you so much for your advice. Will taking the alpha lipoic acid capsule help the numb feeling in the feet go away immediately or does it take days until the feeling will come back?

@sarah123s,

Congrats on waking up.

I am sorry to inform you that there is no such thing as immediate reversal or total relief from peripheral neuropathy in a short period. It takes ages and poor Diabetic control to reach this situation. Therefore, please dont expect a magic potion from anywhere.

But this should not discourage you. In fact any thing about diabetes should not discourage you. The fact that you are brave enough to seek peer help on this forum shows your good intent.

From my personal experience I can state that in the last two years I have found great relief in my neuropathy but it is not cured. In fact if I fail to order ALA in time and if I remain without the medicine the feeling of numbness does come back BUT without pain.

When you start taking the ALA the first sign of relief will come in 2-4 weeks. From then on you will feel better however you have to take it ALA regularly .

I will recommend you to visit Youtube and search Peripheral Neuropathy. You will get listing of more than 10 doctors which will help you in understanding Neuropathy. You are not alone !!

I will also encourage you to visit dlife.in an excellent resource as well as great peer to peer help forum.

There is a doctor on youtube who has had success with reversal of peripheral neuropathy. You will have to make your own judgement. In the meantime please understand that every thing in Diabetes is NOT one size fits all. We are all unique in our own ways and as such everyone responds to treatment differently.

You have taken the first step in seeking answers. Sarah, your journey has just begun, stay focussed stay disciplined and seek advice on every platform.

I have been going to Doctors for the last 20 years and have learnt nothing except that Doctors don't like people who seek answers on forums.

My two cents, its your body, your life -you are entitled to get as much knowledge as you can grasp for making intelligent decisions regarding your health. Forums are an excellent resource to get advice and encouragement from fellow members.

Be persistent.

sarah123s No need to thank. This is what all of us do. Sharing our experiences and encourage each other.

One of these days you are going to do just like all of us.

It's unlikely to be the result of the medication.

I'd suggest what you are experiencing are complications due to uncontrolled diabetes and the numbness is likely to be diabetic neuropathy:

niddk.nih.gov/health-inform...

If you are willing to make changes to your diet you will be able to control your condition:

dietdoctor.com/diabetes

Anup will likely follow with his reply, read what he has to say carefully.

@Anup Singh

Thanks. I have been reading a fair bit but not joining in conversation as I felt great responses coming from all.However sarah 123s case came close to my own suffering and hence I had to help with my experience.
