Perhaps, most of the weight loss surgeries, in themselves, do not address cause of weight gain. Not everybody who goes through the surgery live happily 'ever after'. Our medical adviser who has done many such surgeries is personally not in favor.

Why is he not in favour ?
I am waiting for one in the UK. I see it as my last resort. I hit the target because I've got type 2 diabetes and my BMI is over 35.
I can loose weight but struggle to keep it off. The only diet I can loose weight on it cambridge diet which is a vlcd shakes only. I lost 5 1/2 st on this diet but ended up putting it back on again when I reintroduced food. The reason I struggled with my weight is because of pcos, insulin resistance. The longest time I kept my weight off was when I was running 40 miles a week. I'm doing LCHF now but the weight isn't coming off very quickly at all.
At my lighter weight I was 11st and my heaviest 23 stone. I've never reached 23st ever again but am right in in the high 16st range. I'm exercising 3-4 times a week. It's hard work.
The reason behind wanting a gastric bypass is because my mum died at 68 due to diabetic complications and the bypass seems to sort out diabetes. I saw her go through strokes, heart deterioration, amputation then finally death to pneumonia as her heart couldn't pump away the water as it was failing.
I do agree not to get surgery done for loosing weight there are many many other fundas for redusing weght pl follow them if possible
