Hello All,

I would like to know the correct way to take Metadose IPR 850. I am taking it twice daily.30 minutes before Lunch and Dinner each. Nothing at breakfast.I started this six months before and I checked A1Hc after 2 months of starting it and was 6.64 as it was before. Before that I was taking Glucophage 850 IR after lunch and dinner and al;l was Ok for more than three years. Now I noticed,my fasting and PP have gone up. fasting around 115-120 and PP 175-2-190.I have come to know from a friend that he is taking same medicine after food.I would like to know what is the correct way to take this medicine. I can not consult my doctor as I am in Algeria and he is in India.Want to know if anyone taking like me with good control or it has to be taken after food. Thanks in advacnce.

Metformin has to be taken with meals only preferably after meals. On empty stomach it may cause some side effects like acidity, stomach discomfort, appetite loss. Best to take extended release to avoid side effects.

Reason for high BS is nothing but you are on high carb.

I am taking Metformin Extended Release (Metadose IPR 850), but my doctor prescribed it before meals. My diet is same as it was six months before when I was taking glucophage 850 instant release and PP was Ok,within range. My querry is just that, for now,if the extended release tablet should be taken before meals (30 minutes) or after meals? Thanks.

Normally after meals. I take one 500 SR version only after BF. SR version depending upon its manufacturing process is effective for period of 8 -12 hours. Normal variant is effective for the meal only with which you take it.

gkbaheti: First thing about metformin is that once you take it, you will almost always advance to stronger drugs till you reach insulin stage in say about ten years. Please check (on this forum) contribution by GeorgeShooter and others like medfree. Also please visit Mendosa's web page for list/rating of various foods. In 2005 I reversed Diabetes. In 2009 I did not monitor after coming in pre diabetes range. This year (2014), I am so far reducing HBA1C by an average of 0.175% per week (down from 11.6% to 7.2%) and I have never ever taken blood sugar control medicine. efar52@gmail.com

I am not alone and my friends have done it too! Born in Oct 1952, till 2012 I smoked 60 cigarettes, average for 2013 25 and now zero. The first time reversal had fewer secrets than what I practice now [Blood glucose level has become manageable but has not reversed] and both times without medication. The secret is what they call LCHF [Low Carbohydrate High Fat Diet] and four snacks and 3 meals (2 snacks between Dinner and Breakfast) and I can send you (and all other members) my food intake list by email. efar52@gmail.com

Currently how many drugs you are taking. From your post and reply it seems that you are taking Metadose 30min. before lunch and dinner and after lunch and dinner.

Thanks. But I am unable to understand, why within last six months since,I started taking Metadose my PP has gone up.Fasting though,is Ok.Imust mention here that,1. I have not changed much in my diet.2. My physical activity has increased only, not reduced as compared to before. And before starting Metdose IPR 850 (Extended release) I was on Gluphage 850 (Instant release) for more than 4 years with all in control. So will it go up like this in six months or my way of taking the medice is not correct.

You are saying that your BS was in control but what were the levels ?. There is always rise in insulin resistance with age. In some cases beta cells dysfunction may increase over the time and it may happen in short period. Stress also increases BS release from glycogen stores.( consistent high levels of contisol) One has to adjust accordingly.

Thanks for reply. My Glucose levels were 95-110 Max Fasting and 120-130 PP.before six months.A1Hc within 6 to 6.64 for last 2-3 years. With Glucophage 850 IR. Last six months no stress.

If you start cutting on carbs you will surely see improvement. There is no alternative to LCHF diet.
